Perfect example right here.
The playing is top notch, the vocals are good and the stage attire is fine.
What's not fine are Gray's stage moves.
I can ignore that for the rest of the performance. The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

Roth has worn some ridiculous outfits since 2002, IMO. But yeah, even though I used to type rebuttals and crap, the 'prison garb' look Sam had on that tour was weird.
I liked the album, obviously, and most of the Sydney live broadcast, yet some of the moments from that show are like an abomination...
Regarding the black coat? Not trying to ruffle any feathers here, yet it almost reminded me of Eddie on the back cover of 5150 or the Stompin' 8H performance on SNL."There's too many people on this basketball that's floating around the sun, who are too afraid to allow themselves to FEEL" - Edward Van Halen
"Van Halen was never about the singer..." - a very wise fan.
"Embrace the past. Live in the moment but keep your eyes on the future, and keep on moving forward..." - Richie Sambora

I'm assuming your talking mainly about Dave's "Liberace" jackets in 07-08. Yeah, they're ridiculous, but IMO it was Dave assuming his role as Ringmaster of the VH Circus, and not him being "gay" like some love to accuse him of being.
Yeah, I just never saw anything wrong with Gary's stage attire. Now, I wish some of his stage moves had not happened...

There were a few shows where Van Halen played Jamie's Cryin in '98. I wish they would have played it more. This is from Toronto in Aug '98:

That's a great rendition. He didn't all always come across well, but he nailed that.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.
Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"
David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Neither his attire nor his gay moves bothered me. I liked that they played both (all three) eras. Great live shows. Album was rough and poorly produced. Too bad. Could have been a great era, I think. They just needed to gel on their songwriting.

Agreed, and it is too bad. Even the band themselves mentioned in hindsight that they should've toured first and then released the album. Also, after the tour and III record, they had played and hopefully figured out what worked and what didn't. I bet those experiences would've helped the follow up album, had history played out that way.
I was looking forward to it. Ah well...."There's too many people on this basketball that's floating around the sun, who are too afraid to allow themselves to FEEL" - Edward Van Halen
"Van Halen was never about the singer..." - a very wise fan.

If for some strange turn of events Sam and Dave were both dead, Cherone would have been just fine. He had no chance given the circumstances of the 1996 reunion. Mitch bailed. Gary gave it his best shot.
Imagine if Bon Scott quit AC/DC and formed a solo band, would Brian Johnson have lasted?I don't have a cool signature. Deal with it!

I still prefer him with Buddy Miles & Billy Cox. "Band of Gypsys" is my favorite Hendrix thing, ever. Who knows, Power to soul, Them changes, Machine Gun... I've never heard Jimi sound so...
