One of the better songs on the album, the syncopation between Ed and Al on the intro is vintage VH. But I still despise that stupid "wham bam" chorus. Embarrassing. It's definitely not filler, though.

Much like Source Of Infection, the lyrics have never bothered me. I consider both to be killer.

Actually for a guy who considered pretty much the entire Sammy era as filler, hearing them play Amsterdam live gave me a little more appreciation for what to me at the time was a long-washed-up act (I know that's really not fair, guys).
I think the song had been out a long time before I'd ever heard it.

Killer guitar tone and chops, and I dig what Al's doing with the time signature too. Sounds really good. Yeah the chorus is stupid, and the song does devolve into super-filler boring Van Hagar regurgitation the further in it goes, but it made a good first impression on me when I first saw this video (the intro and verses anyway, and Sammy there too)...
This the video, I think. Yeah, again, I dig the first couple of minutes, but then does nothing for me from there really (putting it kindly).
Intro and verses sound great tho! .... but that chorus and pretty much the rest of it. :bash:

I don't mind the rest of the lyrics. But the wham bam part is really embarrassing to me.

The live versions on that tour smoked. I remember Ed's outro soloing as being some of his best live playing I ever saw or heard him do.

Have you ever noticed how similar the opening riff of Amsterdam is to the opening riff of Cabo Wabo?

Killer. Nothing wrong with the lyrics. I've been to Amsterdam and had some wham bam experiences.

killer with bad lyrics here and there
    DAVE vs SAMMY

People need to let this go.....it is like comparing an ex wife to your current wife...you can say how things would have be different if she were still here but she left you, so you moved on with your life.....

Same with Van Halen...would they have liked to have Roth stay, yes...but he decided to leave so they moved on.......

and the rest is history….. well until 1996……..lol
