    Default 1979 VH footage

    http://www.vhnd.com/2017/11/17/van-h...ge-resurfaces/

Jeff posted this over at VHND. I know we all wish there was more footage like this to be found! It still baffles me that as good as this band was live, there is no additional footage out there!

It's nice to see it in that quality. Too bad the whole shows weren't filmed, but it's understandable... If it wasn't for that guy, we wouldn't have this or the '78 footage, so he deserves many thanks and kudos!

Awesome to see Eddie with the Snake/Dragon guitar. Always wanted one of those with a Floyd Rose...

I still want to believe that they recorded the entire Oakland 81 show, but Jeff shot that down a few years ago. Makes no sense why they just recorded 3 songs. To have that entire Oakland concert touched up and released on blu ray would be a dream come true for me. It seems like Kiss and Rush were the only bands that recorded their concerts back in those days.

I get the feeling more that everybody but Van Halen did.... Rush only filmed themselves once until their 10th tour, and it's not complete either. There's a little more footage out there from earlier but it's from playing on TV and festivals and such. That's what so shocking about VH, that there's no available pro-shot footage of them at the Texxas Jam or Day on the Green or something. And it's amazing they never played on TV except for the lip-synched shows.

In a way it makes sense, because those three Oakland vids were shot as promo for the new record,
and broadcast on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert late night show.

Did you notice the Star guitar during the opener LUTS , all white before it got its wild paint job and it appears to have a Strat headstock neck on it but I'm not positive . I`ve always been baffled why no photos of this Fresno gig have ever surfaced

I'll have to go back and make a point of checking out that headstock.
And yeah, it stuns me that there aren't more photos and footage from back then.

There`s tons of 79 tour pics but none of him using the Dragon guitar and Star guitar when it was just white , the one or two pics of the dragon guitar floating around is just a still from the video . You think there would have been been some professional photos took that opening night of the tour . Anyways lets enjoy these clips cause something tells me they`ll get pulled again

I have 3 photo albums full of EVH pics from various mags over the years, and probably only two of the Snake/Dragon axe. Not one of the Star before he painted it like we all know it.

This pic has been around forever with the Star before it was painted and it`s got the Dano neck so maybe it did have that neck in the 79 videos , notice both the Star and Dragon don`t have Floyds yet . From the looks of the Frankie this is sometime in `79

I actually forgot about that photo shoot. Good call.
Also, I could be wrong, but I don't think the Serpent guitar ever had a Floyd. Did it?

It had what appears to be a black Floyd

Again, good call. I just zoomed.in on my phone. Don't remember seeing that pic before, and always thought it just had a regular Fender style bridge.
