I never got that vibe from the tune. Always just liked it for what it was.
I learned most of it on guitar back in the day.

I bet you learned most of it on guitar in 5 minutes!

I like his fill between the first chorus and the next verse. Those single notes on the high E, then the open string drone with the descending parts. Also his solo is pretty melodic.

I"ve mentioned before that I never felt comfortable doing those 'thumb over the neck' things to grab notes on the low E, for some reason. There's a few Halen tunes that do that and I always have to modify the parts to fit my limited style...

One Foot Out the Door is awesome. Most everything on Fair Warning is off the beaten path, but that doesn't make it filler. Compared to Mean Street, Unchained, and So This Is Love, yeah, it's filler. But it's killer filler.

I love Can't Stop Lovin' You. Contrived Vanilla is my fucking stage name. It's a great pop-rock tune.

Fairbarin: Hey Eddie, you have anything upbeat?
Eddie: Give me a few minutes, Bruce.
Fairbarin: Holy shit, that's a radio hit.
    Eddie: (grin)

I do like the solo on CSLY. Very melodic.

i love that you can appreciate both ends of the VH spectrum... off the beaten path of FW and especially OFOTD. And the contrived pop cheesiness of CSLY. I can appreciate almost everything 78-96, but CSLY is where I draw the line! Give me Feels So Good any day of this one. lol

Isn't CSLY vs FSG kind of like Sophie's Choice if you absolutely hated both of your kids?

    Sam grabbed that telephone
    He called Ed at home
Said "hey it's me just wanted to see
if you want to tour with me and Michael Anthony "

Sam's been thinking about going on the road with Ed
He's been thinking about all decade long
But now he's gonna lose cause that son of a bitch
    Won't answer his cell phone

    Ed just blocked his call
    Ed just blocked his call
    No hello No goodbye
    No birthday wish at all

    Ed just blocked his call
    Ed just blocked his call
Sammy's redialing fast as he can
    calling more and more

I guess he's come to the realization
    he got his chickenfoot
kicked right out the door (guitar solo)
Who do you think you are? I am !!

All it took was one word: contrived.

And we'll have 30 pages of why CSLY sucks. Original.

Well, who was the clown who used the word contrived?
