Video

This may have already been brought up at some point, but this struck me as odd. It(the video) just seems more directed towards Roth's solo career than Van Halen, and with circumstances as they are one would think that Eddie wouldn't be selling it. I mean, you don't see any Cabo videos, right?

It say's "Official site", so i assume the VH bro's have say in what is sold? Does it have something to do with the lawsuit?

Sammy sells his own videos through his own site, and probably doesn't license anyone else too.

No I don't think it's odd, Dave was a huge part of Van Halen and a lot of Van Halen fans are and were interested in his solo career.

Not to step on your toes, Brett, but Sam's videos are sold thru Fanfire.com, which is linked thru his site. Official Hagar, and Cabo, merchandise used to be sold thru his site, yes, but not anymore.

VanHalenStore is owned by myself. Ed & Al have nothing to do with it.... other than getting money from the sales of the official merchandise. Same with Dave & Sammy. (When we buy the merchandise wholesale, part of that wholesale price is their royalties). We'll sell anything that we can that relates to Dave/Sammy/Van Halen. As long as it's legal to sell, We'll sell it. We've sold that DLR video for years. For years the Cabo Wabo '95 Birthday Bash was a great seller, but then when Sammy started selling his own stuff through his own site, we stopped selling it.

Van Halen Store sells "official" merchandise, but they are not the "official" store, since Van Halen doesn't even have an "Official Store". Think of it as a Tower Records store. Tower Records sells official VH merch (CDs & DVDs), yet they are not the "Official" VH store. But the items they sell are just as "official" as if Eddie Van Halen himself was selling those same items on a street corner.

Now imagine a Tower Records that ONLY sells Van Halen... and lots of different items. Then they decide to also sell a few official DLR & Sammy items too. That's exactly what VanHalenStore.com is doing.

And that Dave video is Classic! Too bad that one and Live Without A Net are not on DVD!

I didn't know you owned that store, Jeff!

    How 'bout that!?

I can't understand why the LWAN Video isn't on DVD. Just like the RHRN DVD is just a copy of the video. It hasn't been remastered or anything to improve it to "Digital" Standards. I hate when they do that. If you're going to release it on DVD, clean it up!

I have this Richard Pryor Live on video for years. Started to get worn out. I loan it out all the time. I saw it was on DVD. Paid $30.00 for it, too. EXACTLY the same as the video. Shitty focus and all. They simply took the video, and recorded it onto DVD.

It makes good business sense to do it that way, MARD. You figure that something like an almost 20 year old recording of a band or a comedy special from an older comedian is something that will have more of a niche market appeal. The analysis that is made is does the cost of digitally remastering the video and sound outweigh the expected sales profit from the DVD?

In the case of the Richard Pryor DVD, the company that released it probably figured it would be a low seller, hence the $30.00 price tag and poor quality. It's what we call, "Throw it out there and see if anyone bites."

Yeah, SNM, I certainly understand that. But, I think, when upgrading to new technology, they should completly remaster it. I mean, part of the whole DVD experience is the quality of show and sound. Otherwise, I might as well save myself a few bucks and just buy the tape. I mean, how much could it cost?

All I can think of is, I recently bought the Back to the Future Trilogy on DVD. They did a sensational job. They completely remastered and restored it. Plus added all the other extra's that make DVD's special. The deleted scences, the making of, the interviews...

If you're going to do it, do right! Don't be cheap!
