ATBL, I'm the one, Feel your love....

I remember the first time i heard RWTD, and it fucking blew my head off.
I could not believe how good the riff (and song) was.
It's not the song's fault, but after years of over play, i just don't need to hear
    it again.
    Same with YRGM.

I do think Atomic Punk is very under rated, though.
That thing is lethal, almost a "mean street" of '78.

ATBL might contain Eddie's most iconic riff. I'm The One is probably Eddie's greatest all-around showcase. Feel Your Love Tonight is hard / pop rock perfection.

    Great summary of all three.

I just never get sick of ATBL.
That opening riff, the first time i heard it, it was almost as chill inducing as Eruption.
Later, when Eddie described it as "simple" and "Punk Rock," it blew my mind.
When you hear that as a kid, it sounds like it came from outerspace!

ATBL might be the Van Halen song with the best combination of music and lyrics. Brilliant tune, start to finish.

And i've always thought of "I'm the one" as loaded with mini Eruptions.
I used to say that as a teenager to my buds, because they were all losing it over Eruption.
I was like, "I'm the one is just as sick! Every solo is God like."

Definitely a perfect showcase for his virtuosity, yet it fit the song.

Which is exactly why it is my favorite VH song. Mind blowing fretwork from King Edward.

That first pull off lick, right at the very top during the opening riff, was the most frightening thing
    i'd ever heard.

When you first hear it as a kid, it sounds like this huge, wide stretch lick, because it just jumps
off the vinyl and attacks you.
But clever Eddie was lightly muting, skipping & pulling off to open strings at a blinding speed.

I still worship that lick more than any other.

I'm The One may have been the tune that had guys like Page, Blackmore, Nugent and Perry thinking

    Oh yeah!

As much as i loved Nugent, Page, Perry, Angus....
Edward absolutely obliterated them on a technical level.
    Even sonically.

Edward was the first guy i heard, where i thought: Holy cow, he can play anything
    he thinks.

Meaning, if the lick was in his head, he could just do it there & then, on the spot.
I remember hearing stuff like the intro freeform solo in Fools, and thinking, "How is this
even possible? How can you get that good?"

He made Perry & Page sound like beginner's, and i loved those guys!

    My second three would be:

    Atomic Punk
    On Fire
    Eruption (by itself)

"Dreamer" had a good riff, but the Shaun Cassidy backing vocals ruin it for me.
Sounds very mid to late 70's, teen beat, lyrically & vocally.

I do love the live versions from the "Sheep" era, though.

"I'm the One" is my favorite VH tune, though I must admit I also really love "Humans Being."
