I have noticed that NDL did not started thread on "must haves" for Van Halen debut album.
So, here we go, "must haves off VH1. You can choose up to two songs. I have decided to mrege Eruption with YRGM to include all songs.
"If it sounds good, it is good" - Eddie Van Halen, 1981

"If you ever speak to me like that again, you better be wearing a cup" - EVH, 1996

OK, the second YRGM is ATBL then. Can't go back and fix it.

I'm The One and On Fire with Feel Your Love Tonight in 3rd place.

Switch On Fire to number one, then ITO, then FYLT and we are in agreement.

Close. But actually it's I'm The One, Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love and Feel Your Love Tonight.

I like On Fire, don't get me wrong, and on an album that has nothing but stellar material there's nothing wrong with it being in the lower half.

I'd list that album like this:

    1)I'm The One
    2)Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
    3)Feel Your Love Tonight
    4)Eruption
    5)You Really Got Me
    6)Runnin' With The Devil
    7)On Fire
    8)Jaime's Cryin'
    9)Little Dreamer
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

    Eruption/You Really Got Me.
The debut simply doesn't take off internationally the same way it did without those, IMO.

ATBL. One of Ed's most disttinct riffs and usage of his pedalboard, combined with a crowd pleasing anthem of a song.

    That's my honest take.
Other personal favs are FYLT, ITO, and LD.

I still think VH should have sequenced 1984 as follows:

    Hot for teacher
    Panama
    I'll Wait
    Drop dead legs

    Side two:

    1984/Jump
    Top Jimmy
    Girl Gone Bad
    House of Pain

And II should have opened with "Light up the sky."
To me, both HFT & LUTS are no brainers, as far as opening album cuts.

Oh, yeah. I knew I was missing one.

So it's last after Little Dreamer.

Again, last on VHI is not a bad thing because all the songs are good. But one has to be last.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

When youíre right you are right!

Eruption has to lead every discussion for me and VHís debut. It put Eddie in the consciousness of an entire generation. What a way to lead a debut rock record. Brilliant.
