I gotta make time to watch this entire game. What a classic.

Nice to see the prime Bird at work. He goes after rebounds as fiercely as anyone ever has. And his defense was pretty damn good here too. Some of the best outlet passes you'll ever see. It's instant...he gets the ball and it's on its way to a teammate heading the other way.

A couple of cool Dr J moments too.

Couldn't help thinking how Bird would be attacked if he played today for missing that free throw and not getting near the ball on their last possession with a chance to push the lead to 3 points.

Check out 11:23. Bird would have to apologize for that if he did it today. The media would probably be all over it calling him an a-hole. I don't blame him though. I would get sick of the grabbing too.

edit: Read this in the comments...sum it up pretty well:

It also may have been the best playoff series in NBA history. Two evenly matched rivals who both finished the regular season with identical 62-20 records. They split the 6 regular season games with each other 3-3. This series had 5 of the 7 games decided by margins of 1pt, 2pts, 2pts, 2pts and 1pt. Incredible.

When you watch Bird before the back injury, it is just a treat to watch. Not the athleticism of other great players, but damn, he got it done.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

More reason to be skeptical of official height listings on various players.

Bill Russell and Ben Wallace are both listed as 6'9"

Bill is taller than Ben's afro! And this is the older Bill Russell who no doubt had lost some height by that point.

I've always heard they measured guys in the 60s without their shoes on. Bill would be a 6'11"- 7 footer today.

So I guess Kobe is the new guru for young NBA players. Lots of guys flocking to work out with him.

We took the kids to the Game 1 Seattle Storm playoff game Sunday, and Mr Russell was there. He still looks good, just a bit frail, for his advanced age. When they put the camera on him and announced he was there, of course he got a rousing standing ovation. Pretty cool.

My Pop just turned 76, so 85 sounds about right for Mr Russell.

I know, right?! My Mum will also be 76 in November. Just crazy to think about the years flying by. I just found out a classmate of mine died last week. Seems like yesterday he and I were sitting next to each other in History class our Junior year.

I'm grateful to still have both my folks, and to have them still in fine health.

    Speaking of oldies

Your parents are the reverse of mine. My mom just turned 76 and is a few months older than my dad. But you would never know how old she is she doesnít look or act it. My dad was never sick in his life but heís starting to fall apart now itís kinda hard to watch. I canít imagine my father sick so itís weird. But could be worse.

    Yep weíre getting old man.

My dad will be 83 next month and my mom is 81. I'm very happy that they're both still around.
