Default Rolling Stone magazine for sale

Reading the Tom Petty news I discovered another item from the last couple of weeks I was unaware of: Rolling Stone magazine is up for sale!

I knew the Village Voice is out of print and is online-only. Here in Atlanta we had Creative Loafing, which was a Voice clone, and in the past couple of months it went from a weekly paper to a monthly magazine. Now Rolling Stone, the staple of my youth that took over after Circus, is up for sale! Maybe someone more business savvy than me will understand it, but Jann Wenner's 49% stake was sold about a year ago to a Singaporean company, and now he's helping them to sell it yet again?

In the internet age I've found my music news searches usually lead to Blabbermouth or UltimateClassicRock. I think Rolling Stone's mistake was in misjudging who their audience was. Like a rock band with a decades-spanning career, they should've realized at some point that the bridge between what today's 17 year olds are into and what their existing readers were into was too far to cross, and did what Classic Rock now does, writing new stories about the `60's-90's stars who are still around. Instead I peek at it and get the deep insights of 19 year old newb musicians who've "streamed" a few thousand listens.

Variety: Rolling Stone Magazine is Up for Sale

"...a nearly 10% drop in newsstand sales while online traffic in the U.S. for RollingStone.com had declined by 28%."

I hope a bird cage liner company buys the mag and sells reprints of covers like the one glorifying the Boston bomber prick to pet stores.

I would rank Rolling Stone Magazine #70 on my all-time list of rock & roll publications.

That was a clever post...very unlike you.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Rolling Stone was not qualified to make a top guitar player list.
