I am with Wildman, I thought CF would be better. Some of my favorite musicians are in that band, and to me it's just "ok". I never sit back and think "man, I want to listen to some CF".

They have all been better elsewhere.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    OK I have to ask.

-When/where has Sammy been better? Not on his recent solo albums, where his songwriting was pretty lackluster.
-When/where was Mike better? Not on the last few VH records where he was kept in a "note prison" by EVH and mixed super low.
-When was Chad Smith better? Not on recent RHCP records where his playing is minimalistic.
-When/where was Satch better in a band format? Well, he's never done a record with a band before, so there's nothing to compare it with. I'm a fan of early Satch, "Hordes of Locusts" and stuff like that. But that's instrumental music. Totally different format.

    - 5150, FUCK, OU812, Balance, MTM, 1013
    - VHI, VHII, WACF, FW, DD
    - there are RHCP albums I like better than either CF album
    - I'd rather listen to Surfing with the Alien, Flying in a Blue Dream or the Extremist than any of the CF records

For some reason, the whole of CF is not as good as the summation of its parts. It happens with super-groups all the time.

That's exactly my feeling about CF. I really wanted to like it and I played it over and over again thinking that it was gonna click with me sooner or later, but it never did. Then I gave the 2nd album a run thinking that maybe they'll get it right this time and it sounded just like the first one. I just don't think the songs are very good.

I listened to III last night based on your post and boy, some really good songs on there; right out of the gate:

"Problem is Van Halen doesn't miss you. Or me. Or any of us." - Little Dreamer

"So, Dave's in the same boat as the rest of planet Earth. He's no longer in a band that doesn't even exist." - I Coulda Hada VH

So Joe and Chad have time to record, but CF doesn't?

The whole of Van Halen makes no sense to me and the decisions they make. Half of Chickenfoot recording an album while Sam dicks around with The Circle.

Supposedly the one guy they are waiting on is Chad...hmm, Joe seemed to know how to find him.

Mike Fraser produced it, which is a great choice. He mixed Balance if I recall.

Let's just throw CF out of the picture for a minute. Sammy is currently in a band with MA, Jason Bonham, and long-time collaborator Vic, and they aren't writing music. Sammy has two bands at his fingertips, ready to go, and utilizing neither of them.

Joe and Chad are more expensive than Vic and Bohnam.

This is about money as usual with Sam. The return of investment isn't great for Sam re CF who's already complained that he has to put those guys up...plain fares etc. Paraphrasing but he did say that.

He actually bitched about the last CF album not selling well.

Easier to be in a cover band.
