I bought a used SG future from GC about 2 years ago. It was essentially brand new and I got it for around $500. After replacing the robot tuner for Grovers, all in I was at $600. It was money well spent. The guitar is a beast and I can get so many sounds out of it. Like others have said, you can find good values for Gibson gear and a lot of them are really good guitars.

Those Tribute series Les Pauls are pretty damn nice looking and can be had under a grand. Pretty much the same as a standard minus the binding.

Interesting watch. Kind of a case treading the line of being stuck in the past and not progressing, but on the other hand, they’re doing these goofy designs and robot tuners that nobody actually wants and calling it “innovative”. So the moral is: stick to what works and what people want. And make it affordable to players.

Taking inspiration from the brightly painted "shaggin' wagons" of the 1970s, Gibson has released a new line of Custom Boogie Van Les Pauls.

The models feature a three-tone paint job reminiscent of racing stripes, coming in five different aptly named nitrocellulose finishes: A Squad, Street Race, Bell Bottom, Super Hero, and Stardust. Like a decked-out Econoline's shiny bumpers and hub caps, the guitars' ABR-1 bridge, tailpiece, control knobs, and switch washer are all glistening chrome.

While Gibson notes that both a resurgence in the popularity of '70s Les Pauls and the era's street vans are the basis for the "fun mash-up," at $4,999 USD, this joy ride isn't cheap.

No wonder they're in trouble. These things are hideous.... I'd be surprised if they sold one...

Default Gibson Guitars Not Long For The World?

Spaghetti design. You run out of ideas so you throw stupid crap against the wall until something sticks.
Should have just remained the idea of a former department head who was laughed out the door for presenting what would be stupid at 2 grand, but at 5? They’re nuts.
The only guy with $ to buy it is the guy who remembers how much gas he could have put in his shaggin wagon for 5k.

Hey product design team, here’s an idea. If ‘70s era Pauls are so hot, replicate ‘70s era Pauls at a price the average guy can afford. They’ll sell themselves. No gimmick shaggin wagon paint scheme required.

Those are pretty hideous! This is why they're in trouble....Henry & his insane ideas. You can still get good deals on used Gibsons....I just got this for under $1k CAD:

For 5 large, you could get a Custom Shop LP, no?

I'm at a loss for words looking at those things. I feel as though somebody living in a Winnebago in the middle of an out of service stock-car track would even go, "Those are fucked..."

Maybe a fan of The A-Team would buy one?

This story is disheartening. I love Gibsons and I love the two I have. In the past several years, though, I've seen some stuff from them that's made me do ye olde WTF double-take.

I lucked out with my 2008 Les Paul Studio and my 2016 SG. I've had ZERO problems with them outside of normal wear and tear (a loose pickup-selector wire last month on the LP); however, I know others who haven't had such a good run with their new/new-ish Gibsons. What a shame.

BTW, y'all need to check out Seymour Duncan's Saturday Night Special set if you're looking for new pickups. BAD ASS!

Henry absolutely needs to go. In fact, I believe his creditors have said as much...something like, they'll only agree to a bailout if Henry steps down.

That said...this one will be buried with me....

The sell off has begun. After buying Cakewalk, Gibson killed it and said no further development would continue. It has now been sold to BandLab who promise to bring Sonor back.

I think the Les Paul is the sexiest guitar design ever. Combined with being slumg around a lot of my idols. Should make it a no brained for me. However, I can’t justify (that’s the same as afford, right?) the price of a LP custom that has about ZERO of the specs I like in a guitar. I would like to get one by MusiKraft or Precision one day where I can get the specs to match.

Juszkiewicz is blaming it on the dealers

“There are problems with the guitar retail industry," he said. "All of the retailers are fearful as can be; they're all afraid of e-commerce, with Amazon just becoming the second largest employer in the U.S., and the brick and mortar guys are just panicking. They see the trend, and that trend isn't taking them to a good place, and they're all wondering if there will be a world for brick and mortar stores for much longer. It’s a turbulent world to be a retailer, and many of our retail partners are facing that same issue.”

He said Gibson has long protected their sales partners by refusing to have an online store, although he predicted that would almost certainly change. But he warned stores that they’d have to up their game if they wanted to survive in the harsh climate. “The first thing we are doing is try to teach the stores how to merchandise,” he commented. “I’ve been arguing with retailers for a long time that you have to be a place where [customers] can sit and take in the store, and be a destination that is friendly. If you walk into most music stores, there's nowhere to sit. Give me a break! Most stores aren't comfortable places.

Yeah... that's it. It's the DEALERS' fault...

That old empty scrotum is so out of touch it would be comical, if so many other good peoples' livelihoods weren't so adversely affected by it.
