Heh, I've heard of them. Ed was friends with the drummer or something and played him YRGM before VHI was released.

Ted got wind that Angel was going into the studio to do their own cover of YRGM and rushed VH's version out first.

According to Ed Templeman asked him if he played the recording for anyone and he teplied, "yeah, I played it for all kinds of people."

    Ted was not pleased.
I don't always listen to hard rock, but when I do, I prefer Van Halen. Stay Frosty my friends.

    Oh great.

Keyboard muscles...always a treat. Somewhere along the same lines as "my dad can beat up your dad".
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

No. I don't keep missing at all. I was there, I know what was going on. What you keep missing is the fact that you oversimplify everything. There was a diverse ecosystem of music and fashion back then, more so than today. Grunge started in the 80s, yes, but it didn't break til the 90s. So no, you wouldn't be seeing in any sizeable number so as to be noticed, the changing styles from metal to grunge. It also doesn't alter the fact that this was supposedly taking place during metal's peak years, where sales were getting stronger, not weaker. Bands were being signed, not dropped. In 1985 you'd likely see a Wham! or Frankie Goes to Hollywood t-shirt but they too weren't harbingers of rock's downfall.

And like I said, as you keep missing, many bands recorded their biggest albums in this time. 86-91 was 5 years of monster rock albums. Not only does music not change that fast that fans dump the band they sent diamond just a year earlier but 88-90 was the busiest period for signing new bands and for success of those bands, with a horde jumping straight into headline tours when previously they'd have to earn their stripes, usually taking several albums to get to that stage.

Pop was big, hip hop was big, dance was big, metal was big. Everyone co-existed nicely and weren't adversely affecting the other. Metal caused its own downfall and grunge was there to finish it off and was similar enough to steal its fans. But like I said, not going round and round again. I'll leave you to concentrate on being Squalen-lite.

After spending way too much time on forums myself, I've realized there are personality types that you have to expect. Considering this forum is dedicated to the discussion of something we discovered when we were 13, you have to expect a fairly large percentage of people who are in a state of arrested development.

Anybody familiar with Medeski, Martin and Wood, or the Wood Brothers? This is Oliver Wood's band before he joined forces with his brother Chris. They were called King Johnson, not meaning "penis," but combining the names of B.B. King and Robert Johnson.

Most bands would kill for one decent singer-songwriter, but this band had two! The bass player sings this one. From what I heard, he wrote the theme song for a FOX sitcom in the `90's, but his regular job was as a bartender!

This is a good one for a Monday morning. Clear skies, but traffic is heavy on I-75 headed toward the downtown connector. 8:10 a.m. and 73 degrees. From Atlanta, this is King Johnson with "WORKIN' SUCKS!"

Oh, well...I guess I'm just entertaining myself here.

Anybody want to hear what Ska from Alabama sounds like?

Here's another one of my favorite not famous bands. I had started doing a music `zine, thinking maybe it would be a step toward becoming the next Rikki Rachtman. Somehow I heard of these guys and they sent me their CD. I couldn't believe it. This was off-the-wall to the music I was used to, but they were SO damn good at it.

Their high water mark was they did a song for Cartoon Network that was used in a promo for Jabberjaw. The last I knew, the bass player and leader is now a history professor at a university in Alabama.

From Tuscaloosa, Alabama (believe it or not)...PAIN!

    Default The Ex-Husbands

And as I continue to vent my CD collection...

This was one of the best live shows I've ever seen. I didn't know what was going to be on the stage when I walked in the bar, but this was crazy. The bass player got trashed and tossed a very nice Fender bass on the hard tile floor. Then he took a running leap over the bar and landed on his back. The band kept playing, and his bass was just laying on the floor, still plugged in. A guy next to me said, "Go for it, dude!," so I picked up the bass and tried to find the key of the song and started playing with the band!

Amazingly they said they were from New York, but this was some of the best country I'd heard in years. All of the lyrics are hysterical.

"A week or two of 'no thank you' is all that I can stand/before I go and lose my head/and get fucked up again....I have a ball each time I fall off of the wagon!"

    The Ex-Husbands "I Have a Ball"
