Default Gallagher brothers cover "Dreams", Deraps sings "On Fire"

I don't know if I'm posting this in the right place, but in any case, this is DEFINITELY worth seeing!

I'm a Roth-era VH fan, but Josh Gallagher, his brother and a singer named Sal Abate do a PHENOMENAL job of recreating "Dreams." Josh not only played Alex's parts perfectly (and got the Simmons tone by using practice pads?!), he also played the keys and bass, and MIXED the thing exactly like the original. It sounds like 1986 Van Halen with a 1976 Geddy Lee out front.

Then I've watched this one at least five times. We've known Jacob Deraps gets the spirit of Eddie's guitar playing better than just about anybody, but who knew he could SING the stuff? I can't believe the notes he hits vocally here, doing Dave AND Mike's parts, as well as playing bass. Kinda makes me think of the guy from Overkill singing Van Halen.

Deraps: Eddie, Dave, Mike. Gallagher: Alex, Eddie (keys), Mike, Templeman/Landee.

    Outstanding covers!!!
I prefer the Dreams one, for the instrumentation and layering, and good God those guys are talented!

Jacob does a wicked job with On Fire. He's got a gift, in more ways than one. He makes one of Ed's coolest solos seem effortless.

Wow! So that's what an alternate universe would look like where Geddy Lee became the singer. I guess he and Eddie made up.

If I was a member of Van Halen, this would put me in tears. It's better than a Kennedy Center honor, to see the next generation so into your music. In the `80's Eddie said he didn't like people copying his stuff, but that's because at the time it was presumed to be the quick route to millions. This is true appreciation, which has to feel great!

I can't believe they got the exact tones for every instrument, even the processed guitar. (Turns out I was wrong about the practice pads, that was on another song.)

This also shows me that being good yourself is one thing, but it helps to be surrounded by great people. I found some of this singer's stuff with his own cover band, and (no offense if he reads this), but his backing band and mixes aren't nearly this good, and as a result he sounds so-so, too. Here, he comes off like a million bucks! Stick close the Gallagher boys!

Josh Gallagher has a Keith Moon quality, the way he's always smiling and goofing off, you can tell he's having 110% fun. Also gotta love the fire extinguisher on the bass drum. And check out their "Paradise City" cover -- he also does a perfect Axl Rose! Insane!

No doubt I have now listened to their version more times than the Van Hagar version. These guys could singlehandedly turn me into a Van Hagar fan.

Josh has a video of him unveiling his 1980 Tama Rosewood snare, the exact model that Alex used for many songs in the 80s, including the 5150 album and tour, that he found and bought somewhere. I haven't watched this Dreams video yet, but he also has another video where he demos his 5150 kit, complete with the Simmons pads and Rosewood snare, and he really does have those tones dialed in. I watched a video he and Deraps did of the song "5150", and they nailed that one too.

The On Fire one I saw a few months back and is one of my favorites of theirs, too. Just tremendously talented musicians. Josh used to post occasionally on the old classicvanhalen site, and would sometimes post his videos there. Username droomerboy5150 I believe. I don't think he's ever posted here, that I'm aware.
