    Default Need a PA

I don't know anything about PAs and I need one for our startup cover band. I saw this Alesis PA System in a Box Bundle on Reverb and could find no reviews on the internet. Does anyone know about these, or what I should be looking for? Just need one for practice and for small/medium bar venues. Any help is appreciated, not looking to spend a whole lot of cash right now.

How many mics will you be using at once? How big is the band? What kind of amps are you guys using?

In my opinion that set up won't be loud enough. It takes a lot of wattage to get over the drums, especially if you guys are playing hard rock with distortion and running several mics into it. You need something bigger. It might be fine for a small rehearsal studio but even a smaller club it won't be loud enough.

Thanks Brett, so what should I be looking at? 400 Watts? Any suggestions on brands?

I heard that Dave Roth has a decent P.A. to rent, although it might just be cheaper to get him in the band?

    Depends.

Not trying to avoid answering, but do you know whether or not the place you are gigging has PA sound (ie, the amp is mic'd to the house sound), or even better, if they have direct in house sound.

If they are playing it through the house, you only need your amp to be loud enough to hear yourself. If your amp is too loud in this situation, you are just going to drown out the PA and it will sound like shit.

I think how you play partially plays into it as well. Do you prefer a cleaner tone, or do you play with lots of distortion and overdrive?
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

I would say look for 600 just to be safe if you want to cover your bases. Do you want a bundled system?

Not necessarily, I just don't know where to start.
