Yep, all official Chickenfoot albums here in Europe (or at least here in Germany) were released through earMusic.

This is lame. The "live cd" appears to be nothing new but rather the audio from the "Get Your Buzz On" DVD of the 2009 Phoenix concert. I find it amusing that "Get It Up" is on there. That was one of my two "skip tracks" on the first album. After the first listen, I always went from "Oh Yeah" to "Down the Drain." Looking forward to shelling out $1.29 for "Divine Termination," but I'll pass on this product.

Reading that made me think of this: (Skip to 25:23 since links here do not respect the "time" variable in YouTube URLs)

Someone explain to me why this band isn't out and about kicking ass?
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

DONATE TO THE LINKS YA CHEAP BASTARDS!!!!

For the same reasons you often mention. "It's not worth it" for Sam.

CF requires a little more effort than Sam is capable of these days.

Pfft. Whaddya talkin' about. The current existence of CF def isn't based on Sam's abilities or lack thereof. Last year in Tahoe he burned the barn down. Believe it. You'd have known that if you'd bothered to make the 45 minute trip up to south shore from the biggest little city. I know, I know, you don't do live shows anymore.

The bottom line is the same it's been since the end of the first tour. It's all about Chad. He just can't - or won't - do it. For whatever reasons. They tried without him, it just wasn't the same. There is little doubt that Joe, Mike, and Sam would almost certainly clear schedules to make a limited CF run in primary markets across the US.

The RHCPs seem to be ending their 2017 tour by mid March. Unless they're adding a Euro leg soon, that leaves plenty of time for Chad to decompress and figure out a few shows with the 'Foot, I'd hope. Sammy turns 70 this year. I imagine there'll be some celebrating and commemorating, esp later in the year. I imagine if Sammy wants to, they'll play a gig or two for his 70th year.

So I basically logged on to check out any insights re: the new CF Best Of album. Finally they're releasing Divine Termination as a studio track. Can't wait. Serio. What a great tune in Tahoe. Worth the 12 bucks alone...I don't do digital, so I'll have to buy the CD. That said...a Greatest Hits without Down the Drain?? WTF. Come on, Sam. It's kind of the 'Foot's signature tune. It's kinda their BEST tune. If you must limit it to 11 tracks, kick GIU to the curb and replace it with DTD. Geez. I'd say Oh Yeah should go first, but I know that's a 'Foot "hit." Not one of my faves, but whatev.

I think there's an outside chance things are in prelim motion to do another 'Foot weekend in Tahoe this year, depending on whether Chad's down or not. I suppose it's possible that they might rally and sub in for the Circle/Wabos at Sam's annual Cabo bday bash given the momentous big Seven Zero at hand.

Christ, Sammy Hagar is 70 years old this year. Holy hell I am old. GenX is fast approaching the end of our era.

Oh, and btw...took a peep in Main of course. Haha. Wow. So both Brett and Jeff shut down a clearly ambitious and ridiculous rumor (as if VH has EVER done that much activity ever in their entire career LOL) and still there are folks who insist otherwise. Heh. I get that hope trumps reality for many, I do, but come on.

VH isn't doing jack shit, hasn't been doing jack shit. Other than WVH fiddling around in the studio still, lol.

That said...the 40th anniversary in 2018 might indeed result in one final nostalgia run. I strongly doubt Sam or Mike will be involved.

Which brings me back to this particular forum and thread. Once again I'll reiterate that I'd take a new Chickenfoot disc and tour any day over a Van Hagar reunion simply for one reason. The chemistry between the 'Foot is real and authentic. The chemistry in a reunited Van Hagar will be forced and contractual.

Agree for the most part, except for a couple of interviews of Sam after CFIII where he said that when he makes an effort like he did for the CF disk, he can't take failure. He has to sell a hefty amount of records, be high up in the charts, and make a bit of money. CFI accomplished that. CFIII didn't. That didn't sit well with Sam, who's used to "winning." Hence CF being put on the back burner. Satch implied this much in an interview if you read between the lines. Chad Smith does have down time, as evidenced by the gazillion projects he's involved in.

Not that different than what happened to VH with their Gary-lead album.

Come to think of it, maybe everyone in that dysfunctional family should refrain from naming records with a "III" in them!

That kind of sentiment regarding album reception used to be true, but it just isn't the case anymore. Few albums other than today's top pop / R&B artists sell anymore, and certainly not 'classic' rock acts whose primes are behind them. Artists don't tour albums anymore. Artists tour themselves nowadays. Thus why so many hit the casino circuits. They're selling memories, not new products. It sucks, but it's how it is now.

I daresay that one of the reasons III didn't land as well as the debut is also 'cause...III wasn't as good as I. The Redheads alone should've made up the difference in sales, but they didn't. 'Cause III, while a stellar effort, was a bit less Boom and a bit more Chill, which worked fine for diehards, but perhaps didn't hold up as well live.

Sammy is no stranger to albums 'bombing' or not doing as well as expected, LOL. He's got a big fat catalogue under his belt.

It didn't help that Chad didn't tour the III album with them, to be sure.

Again...CF isn't happening because of Chad. Not 'cause of Sam. He plays with Mike in all three of his bands, so that's not an issue. You can be certain that being the business savvy artist that he is, he's well aware of the draw power with Joe and Chad than Jason, Kenny, or Vic. Though he enjoys all those artist mixes, clearly. Still, I think given a choice between CF, the Circle, the Wabos, and even VH, I would wager Sammy would choose CF over all else if he had choices.

Wait a sec...I just saw a project being bandied about involving Hughes, Satch, and Smith.

Chad got a little time for that but no CF? Doesn't matter to me one way or another as I'm over CF but something doesn't pass the smell test...

This live compilation is extremely disappointing, just the CD of Get Your Buzz On effectively. Weren't they supposed to film and record the 2 shows last year for release, sure Sam mentioned a dvd of those shows. That's what was required here, to go with the Best Of and obviously a better song selection.

CF was so promising to me but I've always had a problem with Sammy outside of VH. He writes a lot of sappy ballads that I just don't care for. CF III didn't hold up to their first album IMO. I was hoping for guitar riffs and up tempo rock songs.

Seeing them put out a compilation album is disappointing.

VS, I agree with your logic. But somehow I feel Sam immediately put CF in the VH category - where he had 4 number ones, multiplatinum disks. With CFI, going gold, he figured it means the same as platinum in the 90s, he could live with that. It was a record produced by Andy Johns (again a throwback to the VH days), and with the Best Buy deal, they actually made a bit of money on it. Not that he needs the money, but it seems to be a matter of principle with him.
The surprise success of CFI actually set CFIII for disappointment. It probably led Sam to think he could again have a successful run of hit records with Chickenfoot, as he did with VH. Sure we all know it's next to impossible in 2017. But how many times has Sammy beaten the odds? He beat them again, and again, and again. So he thought he could do it one more time. It didn't happen, and the disappointment
must have been bigger than we can imagine. Sam's expectations are different than ours, the fans.

Happy about the new CD just because, but I think it would've been smarter if they released a re-vamped "LV" in The States instead of a greatest hits after 2 albums. With a track list something like:

    1. Divine Termination
    2. Avenida Revolucion ('09 Phoenix "Get Your Buzz On Live" DVD)
    3. Soap on a Rope ('09 Phoenix DVD)
    4. Sexy Little Thing ('10 Cabo)
    5. Oh Yeah ('09 Phoenix DVD)
    6. Down the Drain ('09 Phoenix DVD)
    7. My Kinda Girl ('10 Cabo)
    8. Turnin' Left ('16 Vegas reunion)
    9. Future in the Past ('09 Phoenix DVD)
    10. Different Devil ('11 ?)
    11. Lighten Up ('12 Chi, IL from LV)
    12. Big Foot ('16 Vegas reunion)
    13. Something Going Wrong ('12 Bos, MA from LV)
    14. Highway Star ('09? DP tribute album)
    15. Bad Motor Scooter ('16 Vegas reunion)
    16. Rock and Roll ('08 Vegas first ever show)

Had to pick it up at a store (Best Buy) like the old days, just because. Can only do that with VH and CHI still. At least the Day Of. No DLR/SH/GC solo, although I did pick up "Take Us Alive" at a record store (after many phone calls) in Oakland/University Of Pittsburgh in '10 the day it was released.

After playing through the Best Of disc a couple times in the car, I have to say that Divine Termination holds up. Compared to the rest of their stuff, it doesn’t sound considerably different in approach or quality.

A few comments looking back. When CF was first announced, I thought perhaps they could be some alter ego of Van Hagar. Where Dave followed a similar VH formula on Eat Em And Smile, this could be Sam’s attempt. What they actually created seemed vaguely familiar but still very different. I think Satch took them back to a more 70’s sound and approach so they I would sooner compare them to Montrose than to VH. In retrospect, I think Satch probably deferred too much of his rhythm playing to make room for Sam’s vocals. I think he definitely took it too far with III where the album didn’t have that guitar god vibe to it like the first disc had despite the songs being better written (IMO anyway).
