he could ... there are amps out there now that try to replicate very good (David Bray, Friedman). It's mostly taking a good 'ol Marshall and cranking it to 10 ;-)

Assuming it was working properly all he would have to do is get the variac to modulate the voltage and crank it all the way up and it should be pretty close. Use a touch of phaser and flanger here and there with a little echo and it would be right there.

The tone isn't monolithic through the 6 pack. VH II sounds significantly different to me, a little more saturated whereas I think WACF is much more raw and dry. They're all on the same foundation though. His tone didn't really drastically change until 5150, but even then it kind of went back on OU812. FUCK and Balance are also a big departure.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

You know...I'm not a real big fan of this song. Not to be a Debbie Downer. I'm more an Amsterdam guy. No...wham bam doesn't bother me, either.

Nice to see some thread love, though. This place has turned into CVH.Links, imo, as opposed to VH.

In the John Stewart clip you can really hear Mike laying down some bad ass bass. Smoking groove, baby! Really nice mix as Mike is often buried on many live clips....Not in this clip. Very punchy, funky, and driving that melody.

Love Aftershock. Not my favorite from Balance, but a great tune.

Hey Chris, Aftershock shits all over Amsterdam...Aftershock has more swagger.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Aww, did you get all moist when I defended the Hagar albums in the "caller" thread?

Great intro/bridge and outro. But I've never really dug the verse/chorus - the melodies are not really Sam's best. Maybe it's because the chord progression doesn't really lend itself to a very creative melody? Not sure. Sorry to rain on everyone's parade!
