NY town mourns 4 murdered teens, and some blame federal immigration policy

The village of Brentwood, on New York’s Long Island, is nearly 2,000 miles from the Mexican border, but with four dead teenagers, it has become a flashpoint in the debate over federal immigration policies and their possible links to gang violence.

The murder last week of Brentwood High School students, Nisa Mickens, 15, and Kayla Cuevas, 15, and the discovery of two sets of human remains, males ages 17 and 19, in a wooded area adjacent to the Long Island Railroad have allegedly been linked to the MS-13 gang that has wreaked havoc in Brentwood.

Suspected gang violence darkens start of school year for New York community

Violent gang members are suspected of killing at least four high school teenagers in one suburban New York community in the last month, kicking off a distressing start to the new school year.

The school year at Brentwood High School on Long Island has started with funerals, fear and frustrations as the students have been victims of the suspected gang violence.

On Sept. 13, the day before her 16th birthday, Nisa Mickens' brutally beaten body was found on a tree-lined street in Brentwood. A day later, the beaten body of her lifelong friend, 16-year-old Kayla Cuevas, was discovered in the wooded backyard of a nearby home. The teenagers had been inseparable and shared an interest in basketball.

Sad thing is, you are exactly right. Scum and criminals prey on the weak. The solution? Don't be weak.

A gun is the great equalizer. I keep beating this same old dead horse because it is true: If criminals knew that most citizens had a handgun, and there was a high likely hood that they would be shot if they attempted to harm or rob any citizen they would not have the guts to do it.
