Default Van Halen's best LIVE version of One Way To Rock? LWAN? Tokyo 89? Fresno 92? TO95?

So I know the obvious answer for most......

But wondering if anyone has a few different opinions? Do you like the version in 89 better or 92???

What is the BEST LIVE version of One Way to Rock?

    LWAN 1986

    Tokyo 1989

    RHRN Fresno 92

    Germany 93 (guitar duel intro)

    Toronto 95 (with RWTD intro)

    +++

I guess Ed wasn't interested in guitar dueling with Sam in 2004....hahaha.....

    86 is INCREDIBLE to me.

it changed up a bit by 91, I like the version on RHRN but prefer the LWAN version TBH

I just watched the Japan 89 video while doing the treadmill so it's very fresh in my mind...they were smokin' on that

(I predict this will morph into Sam vs Dave by the middle of page 2 BTW)

Having more than one version of this song disproves the point the song tries to make.
There is indeed more than one way to rock.

I always liked the LWAN version best as it was the first time they did it, and it was cemented in my brain from watching it 10,000 times on VHS. That being said, Tokyo 89 is every bit as good a performance, and if I had been exposed to that version first, I would probably like it better.

LWAN for me, but closer then you think.

I just wish there was a better video of 1993. They did the extended guitar duel intro at times. Some smoking playing. Norway 1993 is pretty good to.

I don't even need to listen to them, there is no way any of them are better than the LWAN version.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

DONATE TO THE LINKS YA CHEAP BASTARDS!!!!

Maybe not. But as someone who has seen them on all their Van Hagar Tours it is fun to compare OW2R through the years. Even in the 90s they were still kicking ass on this song LIVE. Fan Fav for sure.

Exactly the same for me. Pretty much grew up with the LWAN version and wore out my VHS so I'm slightly biased but the 1989 version is just as good.

The consensus will be LWAN because so many of us watched it a billion times when it came out. It carries a shit ton of sentimental element to it. But I'm sorry, that Tokyo 89 version is right there with it. Flip a coin. If I take the history of LWAN out of it then I may just go with Tokyo. I can't even tell you how often I watch that whole show. Something about it is just awesome. If we're talking full show I think Tokyo beats LWAN pretty easily.

The RHRN One Way To Rock pales in comparison to those two. Way too many fills by Ed aren't there.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

I like the acoustic+ accordian version he did with Vic Johnson on the Lite Roast B-side.

This is what I am talking about. Great take.

I also thought the version on RHRN in Fresno 1992 was a bit lacking.

But then I liked it better when they came back on the 1993 tour just a year later.

    +++

I shutter to think about how much effort Ed would have put into it in 2004.......haha.. He might have just sat it out....

    That Tokyo 89 version is ( . Y . )
"It's so lonely at the top because it's so crowded at the bottom" - Diamond David Lee Roth

"The past ain't what it used to be"

"Music is like candy. You throw out the rappers"

"Be careful what you wish for because you just might lose what you already have"

"Women and Children First ... The REAL Van Halen III"

It's hard to compare versions that have completely different sound quality because they source from different recording setups...

The Tokyo has the best sound "energy" to my ears
