Default Show Your Modded EVH Wolf's or Striped Series

Curious what kind of mod's people make to the stock EVH's and how common it is. Here's some things I've done.

First thing here was a makeover of my white Wolf Standard. I swapped out the black hardware for white pearloid tuners, chrome nut, chrome string retainer, chrome jack plate cover, and a chrome floyd. I've always loved white guitars but not with black hardware, so switching to chrome was a no-brainer for me and I think it looks a thousand times better. The photos don't do justice to the pearloid tuners because they look like chrome but the white really looks awesome in person.

    The stock headstock:

    .
    After the change:

    .
    With the chrome Floyd:

On my Unchained Striped Series I got rid of the EVH logo. I hate that logo on the Striped Series so it had to go. Only took a few minutes with a sanding sponge and a few coats of gloss polyurethane. Looks brand new.

    .
The other change was kind of a biggie, moving the volume knob closer to the strings. It felt a mile away the way it was compared to how my 5150 feels. I kept reaching for it but it wasn't there. Was driving me nuts. So I measured out the exact location of where it was on the 5150. So happy I made the change. Yes there's a hole where the volume knob was that I need to do something about. I had a black circle sticker on there and people couldn't even tell. I also have a VH kill switch I could put there but I doubt I will. I'm kicking around some different ideas.

I need to get myself one of those Unchained guitars. Best used value on the market out of all the stripe series.

Yes they are. I paid $569 in March. Open box item and it came with a nice gig bag too. Seemed like a steal to me. It was in perfect brand new condition.

It's good to see you back here in full force, DD! The Wolf standard looks way better with the chrome hardware, nice job.

I've done some simple mods to both of my Wolfgangs. My '96 Peavey standard has a Master Volume / Neck Volume control set up. This allows me to always be able to kill the sound with the Master Volume when playing live no matter what pickup I'm on, but I can also turn the Neck Volume down to get a cleaner tone or kill switch effect. And, this is super small and doesn't impact playing much at all, I also switched from Strat style knobs to the MXR knobs when I saw Eddie's first prototype EVH Wolf with them. Huge improvement in look and feel, IMO.

My MIM EVH Special has a Push-Push on the tone knob that splits both pickups. I prefer the push-push switches over push-pull because they're super easy to activate live, even mid song. I just slam the side of my palm against them and it switches to the next position.

Very cool. Seems like some creative changes outside the box that probably aren't that common.

Man, I'm still trying to find some EVH guitars locally TO be able to them. I don't know what it is, I've checked all 4 guitar centers in Atlanta and even Chattanooga and I can't find squat. Except beat to hell specials like 2 years ago.

Same problem in the 3 stores here in Mass I go to. One of them I can't remember the last time I saw EVH guitars. Like never. The other did have them a couple years ago but over the past year they're just NEVER stocked. The other one in downtown Boston has always represented EVH well with Wolf's and Striped Series. However when I was in there a month ago it had thinned out noticeably. I think they had one Unchained and one Wolf Standard. Used to be WAY more than that.

Once my wife and myself have our second child in December I'll probably just buy a special and a USA. Because I'm tired of waiting for someone to carry them.

My favorite local store in Bartlett has a few Wolfgang standards and a couple of MIM specials, all of which I quite liked.
    I'm just here.

I fixed the neck on my MIM special based on all of the great feedback here! Does that count?

I am severely tempted to pull the trigger on a star however. Just something about that guitar fascinates me.

Sounds more like a repair than a mod.

Curious what the issue was. Sounds like a lot of others had the same problem....?

Ha! It was the same issue where the neck isn't quite centered and the high E string is too close to the edge of the fretboard. It took me a few times to get the fix right, but the process is exactly as described in the other threads. I should have taken before and after photos!

Oh that issue. Guess I've been out of the loop on that one. I only ever saw it talked about with the Music Man. Wasn't aware it was a Wolf problem too.
