It also goes to show that you don't trust the word of an unnamed source close to the band. It was probably pumkinhead.

Ha! You totally beat me to that!

The "When people bring up Van Halen, I talk about it with pride and with no apprehension at all. I play those songs all the time." part stood out to me too. Dave listens to DTNA all the time and still doesn't know the melody?

Oh...and DTNA is not easy to sing...try it at karaoke some time.

It is. We practiced it a few times, it's tough, I couldn't swing it without making wholesale changes to the key, and VH songs are hard to do that with usually, so we abandoned it.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

DLR just abandoned trying to sing it correctly altogether.

"Sing" it like Dave does, and it's no problem, lol.

In other words, not even remotely like the original.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

The guy was probably right. In January 2006. But in the world of VH, six months can make a big difference. Also Dave called Alex. He called the wrong brother!

Same here. I just assumed "How hard could it be? Dave can do it!" But then I tried to sing it and suddenly my vocal chords were wondering what the hell I was trying to do to them. And like you said, you can't really change the key to that song and make it sound right. I came away with new respect for Dave....the 1979 version anyway.
