Default EVH USA Neck vs EVH Special Neck - differences?

Is there any difference between the necks of the EVH USA and EVH special? I need a second guitar as we play multiple tunings throughout our set (440 and Eb). I love the neck on my EVH USA so I thought I would pick up an EVH Special but have been hesitating because I don't know if the necks are the same dimensions. Right now I'm using my Les Paul as my Eb guitar but I really want a guitar with a floyd on it - such as the EVH special.

Anyone have any insight to the necks of the two guitars that you could share?

What about the Peavey necks? How different are those?

I have two USA's and a standsrd. Both USA's have stainless frets and the standard has the jumbo frets. That is the only real noticeable difference. I can also say the quality of wood on the standard is much cheaper. The actual measurements and scale are basically the same. I can switch between the guitars and it's the hardware of the standard which seems to be the issue from a playability point of view.

In my experience they've felt the same dimension wise. The standards do feel like a different quality than the Specials/USA models though.

my USA white neck feels absolutely amazing. Super fast and smooth. My old EVH special neck (this one was a maple board not ebony like my USA) was also an amazing neck and I loved the feel. Hard to compare maple vs. ebony (better or worse) but I would say the profiles seemed to be very consistant on both and they both were very smooth. The USA necks and China / Japan ebony necks have stainless frets while the others now all have nickle frets so thats a difference but as far as overall playability and consistantcy they all seem to be pretty decents overall. I personally prefer the USA ebony neck over most anything now.

I haven't played any of the newer Chinese or Mexican built Wolfs, but I own a Jap Special and I couldn't tell the difference between its neck and an equivalent USA neck from the same period. In fact, apart from the top, the whole thing felt the same, played the same, sounded the same. I understand that these days they have different frets and other components on the cheaper models.

If you want a backup for your USA, grab a MIJ/MIC Wolfgang Special, it's a flat top but the neck and pickups are the same, unlike with the newer models.

Thanks all! It sounds like the Wolfgang Specials is the way to go. At least if I can find a MIJ model. I'll check ebay or reverb.

Don't shy away from the MIC models. I have two and they are perfect. Identical to the MIJ model. Your phone is probably made in China, too. You get what you pay for when it comes out of China.
