I really enjoyed Kevin's recollection of his day and night at the 1986 Texxas Jam. Check it out guys!

Here's a rockin' tale about a HOT SUMMER NIGHT 30 years ago, when the "new" Van Halen headlined the ninth annual 'Texxas Jam' at the Cotton Bowl, in front of 72,000 rowdy fans! Great story, photos & audio...

30 Years Ago: '5150' Time at Texxas Jam!

    Thanks for sharing it, Kevin.

    Right on, Kevin!!!
    Great stuff. Thanks for sharing.

I LOVE the clips of Eddie doing Fur Elise, on that tour! Any tabs for it? The EVH version, I mean...

Awesome article! I was at that show as well and it was an experience that I'll never forget.

The first thing that I remember was how damn HOT it was, absolutely brutal. Between sets an epic fight between the floor and lower balcony took place using.............crushed paper cups. There were literally thousands of cups flying through the air at once, it appeared as one giant blur of white being exchanged, it was actually really cool.

70,000 + in attendance sounds right, it was amazing to see that many fans go nuts when VH took the stage. There certainly was something in the air, maybe it was 70,000 people, maybe it was the mystique of seeing Van Halen with Sammy for the first time.

Now, to have a DVD or Blu-Ray from that show, that would be sweet! A large stadium crowd with a killer performance.

Kevin, You’ve recounted some of this story on here before but not in this detail – loved it! Thanks!

I'd also love a dvd rendering of this show!

Reading that made me realize something. I'm old. My 20 year old self would be all over that. As I sit here at 41 I would want no part of that. See in Van Halen - good. Putting up with all that bullshit - sounds horrible.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

Even in 1986, it's hard to believe that an all day concert with 72,000 people was not video taped?

Considering LWAN was, with 12 000 - from the same timeframe...
Granted, a different scenario, but still. MAJOR festival/VH at the top of their game/other great acts on the bill/etc.

Where do I buy the official product? 50" tv screen ready, willing, and waiting!!!

    Cool read.

But sounds like a total nightmare.

I would've only gone to Dio and VH.

MTV covered it -- this is the only video I've ever seen of the show. Too much Keel, not enough VH.

So, you know that somewhere, there is at least a fair amount of footage to one extent or another.
