JAWS was a phenomenon, plain and simple.
Iconic movie, and one of the eeriest themes (main soundtrack motif) ever.
"There's too many people on this basketball that's floating around the sun, who are too afraid to allow themselves to FEEL" - Edward Van Halen
"Van Halen was never about the singer..." - a very wise fan.
"Embrace the past. Live in the moment but keep your eyes on the future, and keep on moving forward..." - Richie Sambora

One Reason: I can see no one delivering the kind of performance that Robert Shaw was able to give.

    Dude could act
EVH 1979: Well, actually it's not much of a vacation, because we run everything ourselves. We design our own album cover, we have to be in the office every day to sign checks - the whole corporation revolves around us. Nothing can be done without our approval. We even have photo approval.

I thought it was a great ensemble cast, yet there's no question that 'Quint' was an amazing character!

It really has nothing to do with any of those reasons.
Sharks were new to us back then. We didn't know the horror that was a 20 ft great white. Afterwards, and to this day, we are flooded with sharks in all media.

You could make a great shark movie today. Get the best script, best actors, but because of our knowledge of sharks, these days, it wouldn't have nowhere near the same effect as it did in the 70's.

Interestingly, the guy who wrote the book it was based on, is actually a shark lover and has repeatedly said he wishes he'd never written the thing because it has so skewed peoples perceptions of sharks.

Not to mention that Hooper was banging Brody's wife, in the book, and was ultimately killed by the shark...

Yes. It's been awhile since I've read it, but distinctly remember those two things. Both were explained in 'graphic' detail...

Have read the book, have never seen the whole movie in one sitting, just parts here and there.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

One of my all time favorite performances by anyone. An absolute travesty that he wasn't even nominated for an Oscar!

The book is fine, but this is a rare instance where the movie absolutely destroys the book, IMO. The movie is tighter and more focused and the three main characters are better written in the movie to me. Of course it helped to have what turned out to be perfect casting in all three roles.

And the final hunt aboard Quint's boat the second half of the movie is much more effective than how Benchley wrote it in the book.

Wow... I've seen it literally dozens of times over the years!
