Sammy's lyrics at best were woeful. Why go to all the trouble of creating the song and melody only to whack some half-assed lyrics on top. I really believe this is an area that Sammy could have improved. You get the impression he just used words that rhymed and "fitted", instead of actually giving any thought to what they meaned.(meant)

Van Hagar should have employed a lyricist to help Sammy out. They had some reasonably good pop tunes and melodies, but their lyrics were terrible.

</font>[/QUOTE]Point taken, and another reason why Van Halen was vastly superior. It was "the band" without need of outside intervention. Hagar needed intervention.

What I find very humorous about all you-know-it all-know-nothing Sammy bashers is that the man has made, and continues to make, more money than you will ever see with those "bad" lyrics. I guess someone has liked them enough to make Sammy a very wealthy man. Oh, and this goes to you Dave bashers too. Dave's "schtick" as some of you call it has made him wealthy and probably one of the most revered front men of all time. Save the oxygen people. Quit looking like fucking idiots.

How dare anyone bash Sammys lyrics? "Right now", "5150", "Love walks in". They are among some of the best lyrics ever done. I know its boring bringing up subjects but dont bag Sammy for it.

Dude, read the lyrics to RIGHT NOW. Stop with the Sammy Bashing. It kills me how you guys cannot let this go. Sammy isn't in the band, Dave isn't in the band. Hell, Ed and Al aren't even in the band. Know what you are talking about before you throw criticisim around. Please post YOUR Lyrics to any Van Halen song that is original, and that are better than Hagar or Roth wrote.

Personally, I'm mixed on Sammy's lyrics. Sometimes I liked them (Big Fat Money, 5150, Love Walks In), and sometimes they're lame (Amsterdam, When It's Love, Source of Infection). Sammy's biggest problem was that he sometimes settled for lyrical cliches, and wasn't very metephorical. (I'm sure that Dave did that too-so as to appease any who would change this into a D vs. S debate).

I'd like to sink my teeth into Shania Twain's real estate and also get some of her land. Want more cliches?

I don't think money has much to do with this argument. It might be that "bad lyrics" have made the most money in the world of music. Back Street Boys, InSync, countless other atrocities and too many new, lame punk bands to mention. The bottom line is Sammy, who I guess had a few adequate lyrical efforts, relied on the overused, tired, old "I love you" rock lyric cliche. Honestly, count the number of Van Hagar song titles that contain the word "love". Too fucking many. And if you want to counter that Dave uses the love theme in his lyrics as well, I'm pretty sure Dave's definition is a little different than Sammy's white picket fence dreaming, station wagon driving, 2.5 kids having, growing old together, boring version. Halen is a fucking hard rock band in my book. I can spin any lame Skid Row, Bon Jovi, Firehouse or White Lion CD and hear that crap.

Bottom line; Dave is way more creative.

I guess I have to present the VHF disclaimer and state that THIS IS MERELY MY OPINION. Still, I would think twice about calling people idiots for voicing just that.
