I just saw this article about how to tune a guitar and it reminded me of these good old days...

"On Fire" (from the Van Halen LP)

    1st string: Eb -5.3 cents
    2nd string: Bb -2.1 cents
    3rd string: F# -3.4 cents
    4th string: C# -3.0 cents
    5th string: Ab -3.0 cents
    6th string: Eb -5.3 cents

I found this tuning using my '75-'76 Ibanez Destroyer and referring to the DCC Compact Classics Master Recording 24k gold CD.

    Nice to see you, brother!!!

I just mentioned you in the 'Moster Tone' thread... Get the Show was wondering what effects Ed was using on the FW album. I thought I recalled you mentioning the Eventide? And he had some octave stuff as well (tail end of Unchained). In addition to his phaser and flanger effects in spots.

    Correct? Is there any more?

Does anyone know if all of these special tunings can be used with the newer Peterson Stroboclip clip-on tuner?

Yes you can. I have one and it connects to your computer via the mini-USB to USB cable and you can download all of the tunings that I have posted here directly to the StroboClip HD exactly as you can with the StroboPlus HD...

I've been wanting one of these tuners for awhile, but just too expensive for me at $140. Saw it was on sale at Musicians Friend for $119 plus a 17% off coupon for a total of $98.76 shipped. Now's the time to jump on one if you been waiting for a lower price. I've kept my eye on them and they never seem to be on sale. So I ordered it. They are on back order but no big deal, supposed to ship in early January.

Nice to see you on here again. Hope you stick around!

Still hoping for tabs from the '76 Golden West Ballroom version of Eruption, or the '77/'78 New Year's Eve version from the Whiskey... Haha. Joking and serious at the same time.

I hope all is well with you and your family.

Answering my own question here....... Peterson says the "EVH" Sweetened Tuning available on the new StroboStomp HD is based off the 2015 Guitar World interview where the tour details for the gear used are listed..... and "have to be turned to E Flat to reap the benefits"....

Yep, that was indeed Peterson copying Ed’s 2015 live tuning as listed in the article that I posted near the beginning of this thread. Not from me, but I’m glad to see they put that in there. Although I will also say that I wish they would have posted a little more information on it in the notes section of the tuning on the Trading Post that clarifies that it is the 2015 live tuning.

Haven’t been on here in forever, but I’m glad someone is still getting some use out of my research!

The tuning offsets that I have found for ”Little Dreamer” from the Van Halen album are as follows:

    1st string: Eb +12.7 cents
    2nd string: Bb +12.9 cents
    3rd string: F# +14.6 cents
    4th string: C# +15.0 cents
    5th string: Ab +15.0 cents
    6th string: Eb +12.7 cents

I used my Musikraft/Locke '78 Frankenstein replica to find the tuning and I used the DCC Compact Classics 24kt Gold Master CD and the isolated guitar track for reference.

Note that this is the same tuning as the "Women In Love" main distorted guitar part and the electric guitars on "Ice Cream Man" and “Eruption”. Clearly this is another one that Eddie returned to often.

The tuning offsets for ”Unchained” from the ‘Fair Warning’ LP are as follows:

    1st string: Eb -28.7 cents
    2nd string: Bb -28.9 cents
    3rd string: Gb -30.6 cents
    4th string: Db -31.0 cents
    5th string: Ab -31.0 cents
6th string: Db (low octave) -28.0 cents

I used my HDCD remaster of ‘Fair Warning’ for reference and I used my Musikraft 5150 replica guitar to find the offsets.
