Don't have the newest one but we might be getting a new TV which means the one we have now moves upstairs and then we'll need two Apple TVs. So probably getting a new one soon.

I like it. Between that and Chromecast can pretty much watch what we want since we use Vudu and iTunes for movies. I also like that if someone wants to show a video, they can AirPlay it instead of huddling around a tiny phone. Of course people can do that with the Chromecast too, but the Apple TV works well.

Old Apple TV was cool. New Apple TV is cooler and more functional. We don't have cable at all, just Apple TV. Works great for us.

I have the last one before the latest. Works great, love streaming stuff from my phone including playing games on the big screen!

Good thread. I am researching options to get rid of FIOS triple play, which cost a frggin arm and a leg. I've got one smart tv, and the other two TV's are about to get DVD players with a wi fi connection, so I can get to Netflix, Hulu, etc... from them. Throw in an HD antenna and I'll soon afterwards be calling Verizon to either downgrade to just Internet or switching providers for just Internet (if Verizon gets shitty with me about downgrading).

I wish I could drop cable but I'm addicted to the 24 hour news cycle. Fox News etc...

I hear so many people say they don't have cable...just Netflix etc...

Tbh...I dont really watch a whole lot of television as I work so much but I'm still a fan of cable and those pesky commercials.

How do you guys do it?

One thing I would say about depending upon a smart TV or wifi BluRay player for apps is to make sure that companies will keep updating them. There are multiple apps on my 2010 BluRay player where the companies have stopped supporting them. Also, the interfaces are often terrible. Sony is truly the WORST when it comes to the software on their stuff. The Apple TV interface is very, very user friendly.

You mean like how YouTube.com doesn't work on my BluRay player anymore?

I'm a TV watcher from way back. I'm worried about my future options. This is getting complicated. I weep everytime I pay my basic cable and gas engine internet bill.

I'm sure Apple TV is good based on what people here are saying but I refuse to buy Apple products because of the whole U2 thing. If you want an alternative check out Roku. I have the Roku streaming stick and it's pretty solid. User friendly and minimal if any technical issues.

I was just talking to someone who works in the industry. They will be phasing out cable in the future. They are going towards ala cart.

cable's just digging their own grave by not offering it now! If they can turn off/on Showtime and HBO on my box, they can do it for Telemundo and TruTV, too
