Default Would you buy a Peavey 5150 cab if you're on a budget?

So, I'm generally on the side of not having much cash for gear purchases. I have a couple hundred bucks right now, though, and I found a somewhat worn Peavey 5150 cab with the original Sheffield 1200 speakers for $150 at a local shop.

Would you guys be happy with that for a GB-ish cab on a budget? I otherwise have a stock Peavey 412MS with stock Sheffield 1290s and a Jet City JCA24S (not plus) with the stock Eminence.

    Nice!
My favorite combo when I had my old Blockletter was a sweet ol' straight 70's Marshall cab that was at my rehearsal space. I actually discovered it because of the Goddam sheffields! It was the first time I'd played the stock Peavey cab at some substantial volume because of this band I was playing with, and man....Those things were crashing and burning!
After struggling with my settings for a bit, I gave up, and asked the manager if they had any other cabs I could borrow, and we walked down to a room, and there was this nice old checker clothed Marshall.
Rolled it down to our space, hooked it up ,and dude.....Angels were singing!!!! LOL!
You just know when you find that perfect combo.
I made that guy an offer on that cab several times, but he wouldn't part with it...No ideas what the speaker were....but they really handled the 5150 well.

I've had the Mesa/Boogie cab for close to 25 years now. Still sounds amazing. The 5150 and Mesa/Boogie was my first real half stack combo, and though I'm always looking for something new, nothing has ever sounded as good.

I never did care for the original 5150 cabs. Not enough low-end. When I chug chug, I want shit to rattle. lol

That Mesa is sinister looking! Just looks like it's gonna do some damage! Yeah, I've had the same experience. I usually used my old Hiwatt cab for recording narder stuff....It's just got more low end naturally 'cuz it's such a deep cab.
I had bought the Peavey cab with high hopes because there was so much good press about the Sheffields in all the pre-release reviews. My thinking is they really must not have been hitting them very hard. If they were, they would have all the cone cry, and mechanical limitations of the surrounds...They wold become horrible unstable, and you could hear physical clipping.
Moderate volume, they sounded OK, but try to record them....I'f you were used to mic'ing Celestions for example, there was a hell of a learning curve. They have a very narrow, linear field, and just throwing a mic up on the speaker in your usual sweet spot doesn't work. Unless you pitch it just right, and in my case, add an extra inch from the center of the speaker, it sounded horribly brittle. You've gotta really play to get that warmth.
