Default Who misses "The Inside" and "Eruption" days?

I loved this mag to death. I subscribed every year and got every issue. I still read them now and again today. Jeff Hausman put his heart and soul into it, to make them cover everything VH related, and more. I miss those years so much. It was like waiting for a new record every time one was coming out.
I used to get shirts aswell through the merch page. I wrote a cuppla letters in which got printed. I remember the first flyer that came out before "The inside" during the "Eruption" days, saying the mag was coming and it gave early details on "Balance".
"Eruption" was cool too, I still have the cassettes to this day. Sammy at Fresno, 84 still sounds perfect, and I've got a cuppla 5150, OU812 and F.U.C.K shows aswell.
The Internet age is cool, but there was something about anxiously waiting for the next issue every time and have that mag in your hands after that 3 month wait.
I tried to get a fanzine off the ground in 2001 when "The Inside" wrapped, but didn't get the support.
Did anyone else get the mag and what was your fave issue?.
Mine was "The club days". I thought there was info in there that was better than in "Van Halen rising".
I also loved the issue where he interviewed Alex. One of his best ever!!!

I vividly remember walking into NUGGETS records in Kenmore Square, and seeing
    the "Club days" issue.
    I bought two copies!

I also remember the "Dr. 5150" issue, devoted to Ed, where he was playing the
purple guitar on the cover, sitting on a road case (i think).

This was pre-internet for me, and it's what got me back into VH after a long
    hiatus.
In a way, those were better & more innocent times.
Any Sammy negatives i had, could only be shared with myself.

I remember ordering the VH encyclopedia, and reading it like the Bible.

    Bravo- Excellent VH Fan topic.

Agreed 100% -The Inside Magazine was and is absolutely killer in every way possible.

Nowdays with the net all that stuff is scattered all over the place and it's not the same as having a printed magazine at home on our shelves.

It's funny because you'll see people posting pics from The Inside Magazine online on FB and Instantgram all the time quite often saying it's a super rare picture.....but obviously they don't have the magazine that came out before the internet.

Although I can't comment too much I still don't have all the issues yet.

I very much miss The Inside, but understand that it didn't make enough to continue to print it. I still have all issues in a binder and look back offen. Hard to realize that VH was coming off Balance and still a very active band. But with the Internet Jeff has done a good job making his website a sort of online version with some unique behind the scenes pics and stories. Wh

The thing was "The Inside", every issue, looked beautiful, from the photographs to the covers
    to the actual content.

It wasn't some ratty newspaper printed 'zine, it was extremely classy.
And the covers themselves were printed on thicker paper, it wasn't like another
    page inside a magazine.

And the stories were so interesting.
They'd dig up people from the early days, and it was all in depth.

Reading "VH Rising" recently, that entire experience reminded me so much of
reading The Inside, back in the day.
Greg captured a similar style, and it's such a cool approach that Jeff, kind of pioneered
    with the magazine.

I think the idea of putting every issue in a larger, colorful book format would be so cool!
It was almost made for that.

Years ago, CREEM magazine did a similar thing with those old issues & articles, and it
    looked amazing.

We sold many of those at xmas time at the bookstore.

I think I got my first issue of the Inside in 1996 and then maybe around 1998 they ran an issue of all the unreleased demos with small reviews of each song. Then right around that time those unrealeased demo tunes starting showing up on CDR at record show I would go to in SF and I spent a good chunk of change on those not realizing that I would be able to download all those tunes free years later. Back on topic it was a very cool mag but I just remember when they stopped production of the mag I was not notified or reimbursed whatever money I had left on my subscripton.

Love all my Inside Mags, and even had one of my letters printed in one of the issues. I still have dozens of cassettes I got from Eruption video. I still have yet to replace my On Fire In Fresno opening night '79 cassette that my truck player ate. I loved it because it was the entire concert and sounded great. I have an On Fire In Fresno CD I got a few years back, but its only about half the concert and most of the great full band jams are edited out.

I never got the Inside magazine (sorry, Jeff!) but do agree that they looked great. I've thought about ordering certain back issues, though.
Someone else mentioned the current VHND being like a real-time version of it, in a way. I think they do just fine. A really good job.

Eruption Video was extremely cool back in the day!
Ordered a few rarities from them. I was just talking about the US Fest vhs tape in another thread, for example.

Thought I still had one of their old inventory lists, but just looked and I can't find it. I got into cd & dvd bootlegs later on, and continue to buy them to this day. Obviously there's a ton more Sam era dvd due to the times and technology, yet I wish there was more Roth era gems out there too!

Totally agree with all that. It was professional indeed. It was by no means a "fanzine". Kiss had a lot of those, but were put together by what seemed a type writer, and stapled together by hand. Lol.
    These were mags. And classy.

I had all the Inside mags and over 50 tapes from Eruption.

I wish I could get some of those boots back in FLAC.

    10/28/88 Milwaukee comes to mind.

I'm not familiar with Eruption video, though.

I managed to snag my bootlegs & VHS from some cool, local import CD stores.
    I spent a fortune, pre-internet.

Once, i mail ordered from some dirtbag that listed in the back of Metal Edge.
He claimed he had unreleased WACF demos, the extended IASR intro (that one
really lured me in like a fish on the reel), Basement tapes, 5150 Dave demos...

I gave all my credit card information, got billed, TWICE, then a THIRD time,
    and never received shit.

I contacted my card company and i never saw his listings ever again.

Was cool checking the mail box every time you knew it was on the way...

Liked how they did the fan photos of meeting the band got my photo in there of Ed & myself in Australia in 1998.

Would be cool to see it again but understand with the cost of printing & production would be too expensive today..

When I had the band sign various photos from the magazine Mike said "they deliver that to you down here"....

Thanks Jeff & everyone involved with the Inside it was great....
