    Default Cool Take On Cathedral

Not a cover of the song exactly but obvious where the riff comes from. I dont have the patience, skill or imagination to do things like this...lol. Sounds cool "rocked up" a little bit. You can waste alot of time watching Andy demo stuff, the man has skills.

The pedal makes this super easy...anyone can play this stuff. Swelling with the volume knob and sounding the notes by using "silent" hammer-ons "from nowhere" as Eddie does takes a lot of practice and left hand strength. The pedal and other "swell" effects are basically an easy way to cheat. Yngwie does the Eddie technique as well in several songs, including "Black Star".

If you want to hear something that is really cool that comes from Eddie's real "Cathedral" technique, check out "Electric Hoedown" by Dweezil Zappa from his 'Havin' A Bad Day' LP. I'd post a clip, but I couldn't find one online.

Well, everyone isn't as good as you are dude!
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Yeah, I still struggle with playing a F chord for Pete's sake. (Picking up guitar in your 40's is hard...my 11 year old is better after two months than I am after a couple of years).

That guy in the original video might as well be Malmsteem for what he is doing. I know it's easy, just not easy for me!

Nah...you can play everything this guy is playing without a problem. If you have his "magic box". All he's doing is basically playing arpeggiated major chords (only one added note from a power chord), the exact same ones that Eddie used in "Cathedral", and the box is doing all the work for the volume swells. He doesn't have to hammer every note with his left hand and he doesn't have to constantly work the volume knob on and off with his right hand.

Trust me, you can play this. You know how to play major chords and slowly strike each note with a pick one note at a time. That's all this guy is doing. I'll be 44 tomorrow and I can tell you that anybody at any age can play this! Trust me, you are a better player than you think!

I agree man. It's kind of a mind over matter thing. Go in with the right attitude, push yourself, and once you crest the psychological and muscle memory hurdles, you can really surprise yourself. Things become second nature.
When I was a kid learning guitar, I set a goal for myself. I wanted my playing to become as easy as when I spoke.
