Default Eureka - Faux-Balance tone on the cheap

    Hey guys,
Totally stumbled onto this by mistake. Here's a decent way to get a decent Balance-style tone without using a wet/dry setup.

I got one of the TC Electronic T2 reverb pedals the other day and I've been messing around with it in stereo: one of the outputs going to my Peavey Classic 50 & the other to my Fender Deluxe Reverb. It's got some wild factory presets and the stereo separation really makes them sound huge. I was messing around with one of the Paul Gilbert TonePrints ("Oh That's Nice", based on early VH-ish plate reverb) and decided to try it with the MXR 5150 overdrive. Nice! As if that didn't sound huge enough, I then remembered that my old Boss CE-5 has stereo outs as well. Put it all together and it's a decent cop of the Balance tone. The key though is using it in stereo, with two amps.

Note: the Classic 50 was out of phase with the Deluxe Reverb; the Xotic EP booster pedal is turned on & running to the Classic 50 just to reverse the phase.
Note 2: the "Oh That's Nice" Toneprint can be used with any of the TC reverb pedals (HOF, HOF mini, T2, etc).

    How about a sound clip?
Thanks for the gear setup/explaination and photo, either way.

I know 5150rob is a huge fan of the Balance era tone. Rob - are you catching this ^^^ ?

Man, my laptop that I used to use for home recording bit the dust a few months ago. And there's no way I could get an iPhone video to do justice to the stereo effect of the chorus & reverb. Sorry!

This one turned out pretty decent. This captures the overall tone but the depth that the stereo effects add makes a HUGE difference in person:

Man, I'm turning into one of those guys I used to hate on Youtube. Not only am I trying to capture a guitar sound with an iPhone camera, but the friggin' camera was out of focus the whole time as well.

I was in the same boat, but good on ya man! Yes...The Chorus Ensemble is a great pedal to get a good approximation of the Balance tone, and even the earlier albums, like OU812. It's not your typical Chorus...It's far less swoopy.
I was gonna do a vid a couple months back using it and the Boss DD-3, but my laptop had issues too.

Yes, definitely less swoopy. I've had mine for about 15 years and until last week I had never used the stereo outs. Makes it a totally different animal.

Bravo! I thought that sounded great, my friend.
Nice choices on Aftershock, and Top of the World. Your off-the-cuff riffs & licks sounded killer as well.

You nailed it and play really well.

And props to the iPhone for doing a good job capturing the tone.

I know they're very pricey but the "Tone Match" on the Axe Fx works great. Here is short clip https://instagram.com/p/5TPpHSK2R3/

Yeah! I`ve had mine since 95 or 96 I guess.
The other thing I really like about it is the parametric EQ. Really allows you to dial in the frequencies perfectly.
It was my go to pedal for a lot of the `big rack`` kinda tones I was looking for.
That, and my old DD-3. Sounded so good with just those two pedals.

That's funny, because my CE-5 and my old beat up DD-3 were the first pedals I ever bought back in the late 1990's! haha I went years playing nothing but a 5150 with those 2 pedals. I bought both of them used on eBay. Come to think of it, I think those 2 pedals were the first items I ever bought online.
