    Default Happy 28th Anniversary OU812!!!

Released on this day in 1988!!

This was the album that turned me into a VH fanatic. To this day I play it often.

What are your favorite songs on this album?? Any specific memories of the tour?

Mine All Mine and Cabo Wabo are my jams. I didn't see the band live until 1991. But I'm blasting my bootleg of 10/12/88 and loving it right now.

It came out my senior year of high school. I listened to the cassette twice through the day I got it and instantly fell in love with this album. When It's Love was my immediate favorite followed by, FWYS, Cabo Wabo, Feels So Good, and Black and Blue. As I grew and matured, Mine All Mine became my tied favorite with When It's Love and those two songs remain in my top five VH tunes of all time.

I saw them at Monsters of Rock in Indy and their opener for OU812 in Lexington, KY. They absolutely rocked the balls off both sets I saw, especially in Lexington. Love everything about the album and tour.

For me, it was the last VH album to feature Ed's old "raw" tone.

Once the EBMM & Soldano's arrived, Ed sounded like a "Guitar Center" demo
    to my ears.

Was unsatisfied with OU812 at the time, but today, i appreciate it more.

AFU is kind of a lazy riff, yet i like it.
I like the approach, the vibe, the awesome solo & that ending cadenza, where
he dumps the bar in an unexpected place.

Cabo Wabo: Awful title, really good song!

FWYS: Great song, very clever, nice hook, nice departure.

Black & Blue: Another lazy rocker, yet so satisfying to me.
I just dig all of it, it kinda throbs.

Sucker: The fur rises. Lots of punch & Eddie-isms. Great breakdown riff.
Lyrics could be better, but musically, it hurts (in a good way).

    Twenty -eight years....crazy man.

I dig MAM and Cabo as well. Where was that 10/12 show? My show was on, or around Halloween in Cedar Rapids,Iowa- at the Five Seasons Center.

Got the Album spinning now as I type this!

I loved this when it came out but feel it has aged the worst of all VH albums. Cabo Wabo has probably become my favorite song although at the time it was fresh, AFU or SOI would have been.

    Mine All Mine
    Cabo Wabo
    When It's Love
    Sucker In A 3 Piece
    Finish What Ya' Started
    Feels So Good

I think the record was sequenced wrong.
    It should have been:

    AFU
    Black & Blue
    Finish what ya started
    When it's love

    Cabo Wabo
    Source of infection
    Feels so good
    Mine all mine
    Sucker

OU812, in all it's anniversary glory.
Love the album, laugh at the haters, don't mind the "production", and continue to be a VH fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty sure this is one of two concerts that me and some friends took a party bus to. I lived about an hour and a half away, and a local radio station did these promotions where you could pay to be driven there on a luxury type bus. Beer and wine coolers were supposed to be the only type of alcohol allowed, but I saw plenty of folks with bottles of hard liquor.

Smoking weed or hash wasn't allowed either.

    Riiiight!

1988, the Lakers won their second consecutive NBA Title, the Dodgers won the World Series and Van Halen released OU812. Not a bad year.

Jape and I agree on this. The bigger change in VH was next album with the guitar tones. OU812 still feels closer to old VH songwriting, riffs and tone.

    OU812 def #2 after 5150 for me...and I could flip those, possibly. OU812 #1 whoa

I knew about the changing of albums titles, but was it ever written or talked about why Bone was considered in the first place?

Best guitar tone for Ed and best tom tone for Al from the Sam era for me. Alex's live kit for the tour was monstrous and sounded amazing. Yeah, there have been times quite often over the years where this album ranks as my favorite from the Sam era.

Sucker, AFU, Black And Blue, Mine All Mine, Cabo Wabo, Source, and FWYS are all pretty damn good tunes, and WIL is good for what it is, though not what I like to see VH doing.

I agree with Jape that the album would've benefited from a different track order. AFU would've been a great album opener, Sucker a great closer.

I love the recorded version of MAM.

Having said that, I always thought it was much more powerful, live.

I prefer to hear it that way. I can only imagine what it would sound like today....sigh.
