Default Six things about the $6 Bourdain-Obama mea

Deep in the heart of Hanoi, US President Barack Obama sat down for a $6 meal with celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain on Tuesday. The chef, known for his love of adventurous street food, described the date in a series of tweets and an Instagram post.

I really enjoy Bourdain's show. Would love to have a beer with him one day.

Yeah I've enjoyed them all. Love when CNN or travel channel has a marathon of his shows. Always sit there and watch them all.

Yeah...Calling him simply a "celebrity chef" as a bit of an injustice. He's got a good head on his shoulders, and has such respect for people and customs all over the world and food is only part of what he covers. Sure, it's a big part, but presented as more of an appreciation of how culture has influenced it, and in kind what it means to these cultures.
I've followed him for years, and so glad that CNN hasn't stifled his format. If anything, I think it's actually been broadened somewhat.

Not to derail, but I've also really enjoyed W Camau Bell's new show United Shades of America. The KKK episode took some balls to do....Especially when he told one of the members he was married to a white woman!

Well...His book Kitchen Confidential was a huge hit, and just has his personality all over it. The dude's a survivor. He was a total addict for years after starting taking heroin. Hell...A lot of chefs I've known personally when I was young and into it were either alcoholics, coke heads, or on junk. It's actually a pretty tough life. Split shifts...Lack of free time. Tough on your body and relationships.
That's the thing. He wrote the book basically as therapy for him and a friend of his that were in a real bad place, and somehow it got submitted to an editor, and it just took off from there.

He's got a real cutting edge to him no matter the topic because he really has lived life. He said fame or not...If he could find a way to visit all these places, and not have the fame that went along with it, he'd do it.
Here's a clip that just shows how sharp he is, and sums up his view of Chef Celebrity in a nutshell! His included.

Most of the time he's not eating processed shit. He's not stuffing his face with McDonalds and gallons of soda, it's generally all fresh vegetables, meat etc. If you avoid processed food, it's pretty hard to get fat.

Yep, makes a big difference, fresh food, real food, not shit in packets. I easily lost 30lbs by cutting out shit food, only eating fresh and excercising. And it's been easy to keep it off without sacrificing my love of beer.

love Bourdain. his shows are interesting because he examines different cultures beginning with what they eat...and why....and then takes off from there

his first book was great too

but sometimes he can be a food snob when it comes to American "cuisine"

True It can be tongue in cheek with him too though. Hell often trash North American food to highlight the differences in how food relates to to a culture...but then he s also said sometimes you just can't beat a McDonald's Quarter Pounder. LOL.
