Default New 'supergroup' Prophets of Rage

Zach de la Rocha must be way too busy with his prolific and unstoppable solo career

Hope it is better than Street Sweeper Social Club, but honestly the worst part about that band is the rhythm section didn't hold a candle to Commerford and Wilk.

Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy & Cypress Hill Members Form Supergroup Prophets of Rage: Sources
    5/18/2016 by Chris Payne

Recently, Rage Against the Machine -- inactive since 2011 -- launched a website counting down to June 1, adorned with #TakeThePowerBack, which also appeared on posters displayed around their hometown of Los Angeles. Naturally, people wondered if Rage was getting back together.

Well, not quite. ProphetsOfRage.com (a website that is no longer loading, as of press time) is actually proclaiming a whole new group. Sources tell Billboard that three-quarters of the storied band -- guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk -- are joining forces with Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Cypress Hill’s B-Real to form a supergroup called Prophets of Rage (referencing a Public Enemy song of the same name from the 1988 album It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back) to perform songs by all three bands. Rage vocalist Zack de la Rocha is not involved.

The band's debut is set for Hollywood Palladium on June 3, with a show at L.A.'s Whisky a Go Go planned as well. A 2016 summer tour is also being considered.

Rage Against the Machine’s full lineup has not performed since a July 2011 show at L.A. Rising fest.

Worth noting: With election season ramping up, these self-anointed prophets should have plenty of rage to pull from.

If this is a super group, so was Twat Waffle.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I put 'supergroup' in quotes for a reason, because it always has to do with the 'ear of the beholder,' so to speak. To hip hop fans, this is more of a supergroup than Audioslave was. If you go by pure album certification, Cypress Hill has sold more than Soundgarden, plus another 5 million in Public Enemy album sales.

I take it not many Rage fans on this board? Tom Morello's lead playing has gotten less inspired over time, but it's unique, so I enjoy it. And he has a way of coming up with simple, yet groovy riffs.

No a Supergroup to me is more than Rage Against the Machine with two additional rappers. I don't think the bass player or drummer from Rage can be in any super group. Tom Morello? Sure Put him with Alex, Geddy Lee and Chuck D and that is a Super Group. I just hate that any combination of artists now is considered a Supergroup.

I think Tom Morello is probably the last really original guitarist with mainstream success. While I think he like The Edge would be really limited with an acoustic guitar he does some really cool shit. Debut album is a classic. I just don't think too much about the other two guys riding his coattails.

Tom Morello is an awesome RHYTHM guitarist. I love the music of RATM, not their idiotic views. They have some amazing groove, without the singer or the chicken scratching "leads" from Morello.
