Default Friday Night Video Fight, Van Halen style ...

Eddie Van Halen's greatest guitar performance on a non-instrumental studio album track ...

    Any questions?

I remember this particular track impressing me even more than, Eruption.
    And "Eruption" impressed me!

The guitar work on this track is just beyond comprehension.
It swings so hard, yet the licks are insane!

The very first one, the million mile an hour open string lick that Ed
crams in between the first bars of the opening riff, just slayed me.

It sounded like his hands were everywhere on the neck at once.
It sounded like such a wide stretch run, but it was a clever use of fretted
    notes & open strings.

    That lick was absolutely terrifying!

It literally attacks you right off the record.

No wonder guys like Richie Blackmore and Joe Perry gave EVH the cold shoulder.

I've often wondered what that album would be like if it were the opener. Can you image - ITO, Eruption, YRGM as the first three tracks. Heads would have exploded on hearing that.

We'll stay with the iconic debut album for my all-time favorite vocal performance by Diamond David Lee Roth ...

I've often thought the three opening tracks, in order, should have been:

    I'm the one
    Eruption
    Ain't talkin' bout love

I really love how Eruption leads straight into ATBL on the first Vh greatest hits/best of.

Eruption leading into You Really Got Me is nails. Why mess with perfection?

I like it better leading into ATBL.

YRGM should have been used on side two.

I kind of look at opening riffs. Eds solos are awesome no doubt, but he has a way of making his rhythm guitar be solos
Dirty Movies, I'm the one, 5150, summer nights all come tone mind
    But some of my favorites
Fools comes to mind (I'm dying for them to open a concert with it)
    Drop Dead Legs

I still think RWTD is a great opener, and On Fire an even better closer.

I like how you can't see alex's face because of the smoke coming off his drums

I always felt like ICM was the perfect closer.

"On Fire" feels more like a beginning track, not an ending one.
Something about the sequence of VHI, always felt off to me.

I've got a couple of bootlegs from 81 shows where they opened the concert with On Fire and it sounded like the perfect concert opener.
