    Default You and Your Blues

Some don't love this song -- I do, though it's not my favorite on ADKOT. Wolf's understated bass really works well and he really adds a lot in the first chorus and especially in the crescendo. Ed's guitar is awesome, obviously, and overall it's cool how they burst open after the low register bridge and into his solo. Dave's reaching a bit for the "Woman" notes, but overall a cool vocal for our older Dave. Lyrically fair but classic Dave. Only complaint I think we all would agree on is that this is one of the most blatant songs that is missing MA's signature background vocal. He may have even been able to hit the high "Woman" while Dave could hit another note. Who knows.

Anyway my question is: Where did this song come from? Can anyone find this riff anywhere in any demo? Is this a brand new song like Stay Frosty? Dave said (and I believe) that he wrote Stay Frosty as an acoustic song by himself and that Wolf arranged it to where it is now. I don't think he wrote the music to this one though. Did Wolf? Is it one of those vault tracks from 97-07 that Ed gave to Dave (like As Is)? Does anyone think that (gasp) he and Ed wrote this together?

They didn't write it together, outside of that, couldn't tell you.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I don't know the origins of the tune, but I do know that I've liked it since the first listen on album release day!
The riffs almost remind me of One I Want, from III, but that's another story...

I remember first hearing the chorus "Ahhhhs" via Wolf & Ed, and hearing just enough of the old VH timbre to know they'd be ok.
Really like Dave's lyrics here, as well as his delivery. A fun song with some neat guitar parts. What's not to like?

One of my favorite songs on truth. I'm not familiar with it from any of the demos, do not too sure about its roots
I do agree with you though, as good as this song is, including the backgrounds, the chorus sorely missed MA
I also really like the downtown sessions version of this song, just a nice bluesy rock song that grooves

The first time I heard it, I thought that this is how they would have sounded had Dave been there around the OU812/Carnal Knowledge time frame, absent Mike of course, so my suspicion is that it was roughed around that period. But I have no idea.

If they were going to release a slower-tempo song as a single like they did with Tattoo, I think this would have been a better choice. It's really catchy, and the subject matter plays more to a middle-aged audience than Tattoo. And the references to old blues tunes is pretty cool.

LOL, maybe my favorite song from the disc.

Sounds like something from Balance era music wise.

It's not my favorite, as I feel that ADKoT has some outstanding tracks, yet I really do appreciate the song from start to finish.

I don't know why, but I really don't like this song. One of my least VH songs (all eras)

I do wonder what era this came from though, it doesn't sound like it came from the same era as the other ADKOT songs came from It does have a Balance era feel but who knows

I think it was gonna be on the follow up to III. Music certainly fits. Didn't Sam say they pitched him songs in 2004 that they used later? Maybe I remember that wrong.
VH III is Ed's solo album. So everybody who keeps saying they wish he'd do one needs to stfu and listen to III. Then stfu again.

I think it's a killer tune. Bass parts are real nice. And especially like the quiet outro section.

The "Woman" chorus section is great along w some good bg vox (even though a little reaching from DLR).

As near as anyone can tell it's believed it's one of the only two original compositions on ADKOT. I dig this song. Would've liked to hear it live.
