Default D-Tuna on Floyds that Raise Up

So I ordered a new black/yellow EVH & the Floyd was not dive-only. Couldn't get the D-Tuna to work properly until it was blocked.

I looked up the description of an EVH Wolfgang and it's talking about how high you can raise the Floyd.

Why are they putting D-Tunas on non-blocked Floyds?

Ed's guitars are designed as "dive only" and the D-Tunas are specifically meant for that application.
A floating Floyd on an official EVH guitar is either a bad setup, or a player's personal choice. They aren't meant to leave the factory that way, as far as I know.

    Sweetwater:

    http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/WolfSpGld

"You can force the whammy bar all the way down to the guitar's body for psychotic dive-bombing. You can pull the whammy bar up to the stratosphere, raising your tone by as much as a seventh. No matter how hard you're shredding, you'll maintain your tuning stability, thanks to the Floyd Rose tremolo's locking design. On top of that, you can easily switch to Drop D tuning, courtesy of the Wolfgang Special's D-Tuna tremolo device!"

Well, if the newer Wolfgangs have a floating bridge, that's certainly news to me!!!
I read the description and even looked at a couple of models. They said the same thing.

Wonder if it's just a misprint or mistaken statement?
Some of the EVH gurus on here will surely be able to chime in.

I found it very odd my black/yellow one wasn't blocked. It came from Riff City Guitar Outlet, and was supposed to be new. I was wondering how such a thing could've happened.

Can you post some close up pics of the bridge, from a side and rear angle?
I'd be curious to see the amount of space between the bridge plate and the body of the guitar.

Also, if you've taken off the rear cavity plate, I'd like to see in there as well.

I've already had it blocked so it's not in the state it was in when I received it.

I'd still like to see photos, just out of curiosity.

My b/w EVH had a weird bridge angle, and the previous owner had put a trem stopper in the back cavity, to make it level to the body, and still "blocked" for dive bombs only.
What did you do/have done to yours?

Yeah, I've read the Sweetwater thing before. Makes no sense. A d-tuner will not work on a floating Floyd. EVH inc knows this. Some of the descriptions I read are a little off sometimes. I'm going to guess someone who read it has a Floyd added that tidbit to the description. I wonder if an uninformed EVH employee is saying this or the store made it up? Doesn't matter. It's wrong.

As for the actual guitar setup. Probably a store employee set it up thinking they were doing you a favor and not knowing how the d-tuner is supposed to work. Or my theory EVH puts Fender/Charvel/Jacskon trained staff in the EVH production line to do set ups and they don't know or care how a d-tuner works. Too many stories about non flush Floyds out there. QC should be catching this. My personal experience...When my EVH USA Wolfgang Stealth arrived the d-tuner was pulled out like it was in D and it was in fact tuned to E. Well E flat like the whole guitar. And it came straight from the GC warehouse so no stupid store employees got their mits on it. Somebody didn't know how to set up a d-tuner.
VH III is Ed's solo album. So everybody who keeps saying they wish he'd do one needs to stfu and listen to III. Then stfu again.

Yeah, I figured it was a misprint or something.
Love EVH stuff for the most part, but you're right - the QC is all over the map!

Everything from the oft mentioned bridge angle, to the reverse wiring on the toggle switch, to the fret ends, the fine tuner tension plate, the D-Tuna, etc.

The shim between the block and the plate should be sitting on the body and you shouldn't be able to pull up at all. Sounds like that guitar needs a good setup.

I had it set up and blocked by a luthier. He said it just wasn't blocked at all.

When I received the guitar after buying it, there was a multi-item sheet listing basically indicating it had been inspected and set up. So maybe it came from the factory that way and it was missed, or maybe Riff City did it. I don't know.

Here's a pic I took before having it worked on by the luthier. This was done because the small screw on the D-Tuna was missing! They sent me another one out.

Doesn't Nuno have a float trem with a D Tuna? It can't be impossible.

Yeah, now the pic is showing^^^.
Bridge looks like my b/w EVH too. Raised up from the face of the guitar. Did your luthier also put a trem stopper in the cavity?
