    Default Peavy 5150II help

Hey guys. Kinda have a situation. I was rocking out yesterday at the house and I had the amp to about 4 or 5 and everything was ok but now I tried to turn it on and the power comes on and the tubes get red but when I try to take it off standby not only does the switch not light up but it doesn't come on. Haven't moved it or done anything to it. Did I blow a transformer for the preamp tubes?

Take it to an amp tech immediately! The red tubes sounds like biasing, but not going back into standby sounds like it could be circuit board issue in combination with biasing. Go straight to a tech.

Preciate it. I think I'm also gonna take this opportunity to put sylvania 6l6gc tubes in it. But I don't know what tubes I should replace the 12ax7's with.

Ruby's or JJ's should be fine for the 12AX7 spots

    Either of these sound killer in a 5150 2 : http://www.dougstubes.com/preamp-tub....html?brand=12

I used to know the signal chain in which tubes were active in each channel and had the round warm tone for all clean activated tubes, and had a combo for the hot channel between the 83's & the 803's. I'm fairly certain the 5150 3 comes with one of those two types of JJ's in it.

I just ordered two long plate JJ's from Doug's--I never used them before. But I can always use another long plate or two

Thanks. I'll try these. I ordered vintage sylvania 6l6gc tubes to get a super sweet tone. It'd be nice to balance out the clean and crunch channel as much as possible. My 5150iii has jj's in it so I want to have something a little different.

    Default Peavy 5150II help

I also just bought some rca black plate 12ax7's and some ge ecc83's to go in the preamp. Figured I'd switch it up. Especially after all the stuff I read.

I tried to find these things called Westinghouse 350b's. Things are about 2k for a PAIR. But my wife asked if 4K worth of tubes was worth a month with no pussy. I had to think for minute.

You'd think at that price, you'd at least get free shipping.

Any made in america westing house tubes, RCA, or GE if you can find them are stellar. I used to have a 12ax7 from a westinghouse thermostat in my 5150ii.

Ok I bought the Rca holy grail black plates and some really nice ge ecc83's. But my question is what circuit should I run them through? V1-2-3? And how can I tell which is which?

    5150II/Signal Path

    Clean and Crunch

    V1 (one half)
    V6
    V3
    V4
    Power Tubes

    Lead

    V1 (one half)
    V2
    V5
    V3
    V4
    Power Tubes

Figure out where you want them. PS - there's a diagram floating around on the next some where of the exact V1-V6 placement within the amp (the one I just put is from memory - I used to switch out pre amp tubes and try different stuff a lot)
