    Default Legends of Rock

Anyone watching this on Axs tonight? It's nothing new, but fun to see Van Halen shown as the legends they are

I watched it. It was good to see ADKOT get some love.

It was also great seeing the music video clips from VH1 and VH2.

Just posted this in Random Shit:

That "Rock Legends" thing on AXS was cool to watch, but as expected they took some liberties and made some factual errors. One was really weird and out of left field--"Sammy Hagar was a roughneck heavy drinker before he joined Van Halen" or something along those lines. Then, when they got to the '96 break-up they said it a second time, which was part of the reason for their turmoil late in that era. I'm thinking "again with the Sammy drinking thing?!" WTF?

And other things were like how "the whole band" didn't like Eddie playing keyboards and how Eddie and Wolfie fought backstage in 2004?! I know he was obviously fucked up that tour and I'm sure he freaked out and scared Wolf, but what the?

They did a good job of covering the timeline, including '96 Twister/BOVI/VMAs, '98 VH3, '01 cancer, '02 Sam & Dave tour, '04 TBOBW reunion, '06 Mike departure, '07 HOF, '07-'08 reunion tour, and a nice bit on '12 ADKOT. Those Brits praised the shit out of it! Nothing about the '00 or '01 attempts though. And no switching of the instruments?!

    The vids they showed were:

    YRGM
    RWTD
    DTNA
    U
    OPW
    J
    P
    HFT
    WIL
    D (live)
    DTMWLCD
    CSLY
    HB
    WY
    T
    STW

    Fun to watch.

Speculation here, but Sammy was a drinker, and with Ed thinking nothing is his fault, I could see that building tension.
Alex got clean in 86, and Eddie tried around the same time and failed. If Sammy continues drinking and smoking weed and Mike drinking, in Eds mind he probably blames them for his trip down the spiral

He's wrong, but Ed is in his own reality

I can also see him fighting with Wolf, the addicts trip to Rick bottom is a bumpy one filled with regrets, which is why amends is such a big step, one Ed still has yet to make to a lot of people

The whole Sammy's image was of "an outlaw biker" was a WTF moment for sure. Although I love seeing the band getting any tv coverage it can get, I felt this was nothing more than a bad British bio of VH. Basically a few promo video clips thrown together with some British writers that have read some interviews with and articles on Van Halen. Would love to have seen a VH-1 "Behind The Music" style doc, but that ship has sailed.

Yeah I remember MTV News talking about Sam toasting Ed on stage in '95 when he was trying to be sober, but they talked about it like it was the culprit of the break-up.

And the fighting with a 13-year-old-Wolfie thing, it's plausible, but...how would they know?

They wouldn't, they're just taking tumors and running without, not unlike a lot of people on hear.

It's all plausible, some probable, none known. It adds to the mystique of VH

Wasn't it Sam who said (in his book, perhaps?) that Wolf didn't like hanging out with Ed at times on the 2004 tour when Ed was particularly out of it? I seem to recall one story of Wolf hiding out in Sam's room.

I remember Wolf confronting Ed backstage in 2004 being commented on here.

I had an alcoholic parent. Believe me, thirteen years old is not too young to be getting on your dad and telling him to get his shit together.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!
