Default "Humans being" 20th anniversary today...

The video debuted on MTV on this day in 1996. What are your memories of this track?.
I remember hearing about it in a record shop news flyer here in Australia that a new VH song was due out, but I only could hear it off the new "Twister" soundtrack. So I was impatiently waiting for the ST to come out.
To my surprise, I had no idea "Respect the wind" was going to be on there too.
I was in love with the track. It was heavy, triply and angry. Too bad that 2 months later, the big split would happen.
I was hoping when HB came out that they were already in the process of doing an album. This was before all the internet buzz, so we/I had no idea about all the tension going on. '96 was not only a pivotal year for VH, but for me too, I was kicked in the guts when the news of Sammys split broke out.
So what are others feelings towards the song?.

    Great song in many ways.
After the clean intro, when the band kicks in, it hits with quite a punch.

Love Ed's tone on here, and the wide stretch tapping licks. There's some cool counter-melodies in spots, and I love the melodic chorus. The half-time feel during the solo is always neat to hear as well. Love those octave shapes that Ed uses a lot.
"There's too many people on this basketball that's floating around the sun, who are too afraid to allow themselves to FEEL" - Edward Van Halen
"Van Halen was never about the singer..." - a very wise fan.
"Embrace the past. Live in the moment but keep your eyes on the future, and keep on moving forward..." - Richie Sambora

One of Van Halen's best tracks from either era. Certainly the best Sam Halen track of all. One of Ed's best tones. One of Mike's most important backing vox. Al's a monster on the skins. Ed's extended solo is haunting and epic.

I heard it on KLOS outta SoCal first, had no idea it was made for the Twister soundtrack, immediately recognized Eddie and I was like "What the fuck is this??!!"

Has been my cell ringtone for 4 years and counting.

Quite simply one of the finest VH songs of all time.

I still remember scouring record stores looking for that Twister soundtrack before it was released. Humans Being is in the top 3 of songs released with Sammy (Seventh Seal and AFU are the other 2).

It was ironic that Humans Being was performed live by Gary before Sammy.

IMO it is VHs best sound from a sonic perspective. Wish we would've gotten a full album with that sound.

I remember I was in the car when it came on the radio. I was thinking "that sounds like Ed's guitar. Yep. That's Al's drums. I didn't know Van Halen had a new album coming out. This is going to be a good year!"

    Then all the bullshit happened...
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

If anyone were to do a Van Halen biopic, that would be the title. It's a recurring theme.

very catchy song, sounds like it could've been on balance imo (not that surprisingly). glossy production and quite an mtv feel, in a good way.

I can't remember offhand but doesn't the video cut out a chunk of the solo, like the Don't Tell Me vid does? Never understood why that would ever be considered a good idea to do that to a VH tune

    Great song!!

I was flipping channels on the radio when I heard the chorus section and immediately knew it was Van Halen. What a rush to hear those killer background vox.

I'd have to agree with a few posters ^^^, about having a whole album with tunes in that vein.
Balance was a sonically great record, so I'd liked to have heard a continuation of that.

The great song that signaled the end of a great band.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!
