The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

I have to wonder. Some of it sounds a lot like him, even the tone. Some of it not so much.

Oh Christ, not this thing again.

No, Eddie does not play alternate picked scales like Paul Gilbert.

Had a feeling. It sounded a bit "modern" if you know what I mean? I'm not a player but it sounded too mid 80's and not late 70's.

I stumbled across this a year or so ago (maybe longer, I don't remember). I thought the one I heard was longer.

Anyway, IMO it's one of two things. 1)It really is Ed but he's just warming up to get the "kinks" out because there is no way that he would put something like that on a record that is just an exercise in speed with no real melody.

    2) It's someone who sounds like Ed and can mimic some of his licks and tone trying to pull a fast one.

I'm guessing it's probably the latter even though there are places where it sounds a lot like Ed.

Sorry if I posted fake crap and stirred things up! I'm at work and gave it a one time listen at low volume. Sometimes with "fakes" it will sound a lot like Ed to me, then after 3 or 4 listens I can start to pick it apart and discern that it's not him. Oh well...

    It's not Ed.

It's a guy using Ed's sound, or what he equates Ed's sound to be, just shredding.
Ed doesn't play like Yngwie or Gilbert, and you can hear a lot of that influence in
    whomever recorded that.

This was out many years ago & we debated it back in the CVH days.

    Not a problem.

It just brought up old debates we had over this, several years back.

We're there really people that wanted to argue strongly that it was Ed? That would surprise me.
