I wonder where Rock music will be in 5 years.

Being that things can be cyclical...is it possible that Guitar Rock in standard tuning, with a melodic party vibe ala Van Halen will return?

Will bands like Creed, Linkin Park, and POD all die like Grunge died 5 years ago?

I hope so. Maybe Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, and Van Halen can spearhead another "party rock" movement and all the young guns will follow & rebuild the genre for another generation.

Today's music is so negative and somber...I don't understand why the Kids find it entertaining.

All music genres (rock, pop, etc.) have up and down moments in popularity so I wouldn't be surprised if "party rock" comes back. Hell, I pray to God that it comes back.

I think now, more than ever, no one knows where rock music or where music in genenal will be. As of right now there doesn't seem to be any real direction of popular music other than down the flusher. If "real" rock does make a comeback, I don't really see any mighty bands of the past on the fore front of that revolution.

Bands like the Stones will be around forever. Proof in the pudding for that is Keith. He's already dead!! If/when Van Halen gets up off the couch, unfortunately, it won't be fascinating, it'll be cashinating .

If Microsoft, the RIAA, and hollywood get their way, in five years there won't even be music.

Great topic!I also would like to see the return of fun bands like Def Leppard and Bon Jovi at the top.If by some miracle Roth returned with VH they could turn Hard Rock up sideways and stick it right up MTV's teen idol pop/crap metal loving candy as#! I know I'm dreaming, but oh well I have at least a little hope that someday I could finally see Roth take stage with VH.My dream would be that Def Leppard,Bon Jovi,Queenryche(who will star work on new album soon),UFO(Michael Schenker is great on the new album Sharks)and Van Halen take over the Rock scene and kick rap metal/modern pop rocks as# out to extiction!

Music ultimately reflects the societal consciousness from whence it comes. The '80s were a decade of excess, greed, and irresponsibility (that's why we love 'em!). Hair metal encompassed all of that. In the '90s we went into a recession, fought a war, and experienced a president that reenforced the corrupt politician stereotype. Is there no wonder that music turned, and has remained, far more earnest and thoughtful in nature? With financial doom and gloom, a recession, and the potential for another war in the future, do you think party rock has a chance of coming back anytime soon? Not a chance, unless people decide to use it as an escape from reality.
