    Default The Bernie Sanders thread

There's a guy out there running for President of the United States of America. statistics show that he is in a dead heat with Hilary Clinton for the Democratic nomination

and three recent polls show him walloping Trump, should they be the ultimate candidate!

This guy could be the next President of the United States!

    ao let's talk about Bernie

If we elect that Socialist, Bernie Sanders, I'm moving to Canada.

I would take Sanders over Hilary, any day of the week.

And i want Trump to take the Republican nomination.

I want this to be the ultimate election year.

Well, Canada already has a freer economy than the US, so maybe it would make sense to move there. Then again, Denmark, which Bernie often sites, has as free an economy as we do.

Exactly, the US ranks below several other countries our candidates like to label "socialist" because they know that no one will do the five minutes of research required to refute it. We also are steadily moving DOWN this list because of our regressive tax policies and out of control debt.

    Yay, 'Murica.

I love the "moving to Canada" thing, lol.

The best was when Obama announced you were getting 10G Syrian refugees...we had already started the process to bring the first 50G and we will have brought over almost a quarter million by the time we're done.

The majority of Americans wouldn't qualify for entry anyway, although if Trump gets elected you might be able to get vetted as a political refugee, lol

Let's say for argument sake - Sanders finds a way to pay for free education for all to your satisfaction.

Do you have a problem with this?

I am trying to determine if you are against paid for free shit in general - like we SHOULD be paying for our education or are you just against it because you feel the county can't afford it.

Colorado Democratic superdelegates face pressure to support Bernie Sanders

    March 28, 2016

Three top Democratic superdelegates in Colorado are facing pressure to support Bernie Sanders after he easily won the state’s presidential preference poll, but all are remaining committed to Hillary Clinton.

U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, Gov. John Hickenlooper and U.S. Rep. Jared Polis all faced questions in recent days about who they will support at the Democratic National Convention in July.

Polis — who represents Boulder, an area that went big for Sanders — received a note with his takeout order Sunday at Native Foods Cafe that read: “Dear Congressman Polis, the constituency has spoken. Use your power wisely. Feel the Bern.”

Hickenlooper continues to face questions and has said repeatedly he will stick with Clinton. “The voters elected me to use my judgment to make decisions,” Hickenlooper told Colorado Public Radio in his most recent comment on the issue. “I can’t imagine changing where I stand.”

Bennet felt the pressure last week after a speech at the University of Denver law school. A member of the audience urged him to support Sanders.

    Bennet didn’t budge.

“I am supporting Hillary Clinton, because I think that she will be ready to take the job the day she’s in the job,” he told the audience. “I’ve worked with Bernie for years in the Senate and I share very much his emphasis on income inequality and the importance of dealing with this if we’re going to have a democracy and an economy that we’re going to recognize in the 21st century.”

He also criticized Sanders for not being more practical, saying “he has a far more optimistic view of the federal government’s ability to help solve that and … to me there’s not a lot of evidence that relying on those institutions is going to get America where it needs to be.”

Bennet went on to say that Sanders misses the intersection of education and inequality — despite the fact the Democratic candidate is focused those issues in his presidential bid.

“I’m very concerned that we have an education system that’s actually reinforcing the income inequality that we have as a country, rather than unleashing the human potential of people who may be born poor,” Bennet said. “Bernie doesn’t, this is not a focus for Bernie. It’s never been a focus for Bernie, and it’s not a focus for Bernie now. We’ve had a lot of conversations about it.

“And so, that’s not the reason I’m not supporting him,” he continued, “the reason is I think Hillary Clinton will be the most prepared president when she becomes president of anybody in modern American history maybe since George Bush, the father.”

However, Bennet has said he would support Sanders if he wins the nomination.

Bennet’s campaign spokeswoman Mairead Lynn downplayed the comments, saying the two men are “friends” with a “shared commitment to reducing income inequality, which Bernie has been a champion of during his campaign for president.”

“While Michael was noting that he and Bernie have talked about their difference of opinion on strategies to accomplish that goal,” she continued in a written statement, “it doesn’t change the deep respect Michael has for Bernie and how proud he is of their work together to get rid of No Child Left Behind, overturn Citizens United, make college more affordable and take better care of our veterans.”

All kinds of problems with college. That the government isn't involved enough isn't one of them. The funny thing is that some of my lefty friends who teach college are beginning to see the results of government involvement in education. What is happening is that, since the money goes directly to colleges (in the form of student loans, subsidized and controlled by the government), administration is becoming bloated not only in overall numbers but in pay, and full-time faculty is being phased out in favor of adjunct faculty who are employed semester to semester, make significantly less money, and no benefits.

So even if Sanders COULD "pay" for it, which is another topic in and of itself, the problem already occurring simply goes into hyperdrive unless how it is spent is dramatically changed. Public school, which is free, is in terrible shape in the United States. If we want our colleges to look more like them, make them free.

Do you think if people want an education - that they have to pay the price and graduate with soul crushing debt? Should people start out their life in the hole?

I actually think Sanders would be a great choice if for no other reason than it would totally upset the status quo. Weather you like his mandate or not, he's gonna get people talking at the very least, and rethinking how things should be done.
Despite the sideshow, you have to give Donald Trump some credit in that weather he has a chance in hell or not, he's rocked the foundation of the Republican party to it's very core. It's blown apart, and they have nothing to do but look at themselves, and say "what the hell happened?"
I was watching Sanders the other night, and I gotta say, he presented himself exceptionally well. He's got it together. That said, if he did get in, then get ready for 4 more years of polarized politics, and of alternative media icons like Alex Jones and his ilk going off on a daily basis, and all the other crap that has been in full exposure since Obama got office, but he truly has a very different agenda.
I don't know where I stand to be honest...I'm a total outsider to American Politics, though it does affect many aspects of life outside the borders, but I find it amazing to watch. I can say I'm not a fan of Hillary at all. Nothing to do with her being a woman......Not at all. It's strictly her presentation. Despite her baggage, I just feel it'd be more of the same tired old BS that has stagnated the political system for far too long.
One thing....If Bernie did get in, it certainly would not be a boring next 4 yrs, and good, bad or indifferent, I don't think anyone would be able to avoid the questions "what do we need to do? What do we demand from our Government?" Maybe a costly experiment, but it just can't go on the way it has been all these years. No matter what American's decide, you guys deserve better from both sides of the House.
