Not sure if this is the best cover of VH I've heard, but man...it ranks up there. They did Unchained justice if nothing else. They obviously took care to get it right. I think they do a great job of capturing the right energy/feel of the original song. Tone is great and Corey pulls off the vocals. It's fun during the breakdown where he says...woooo, this song's hard work.

Definitely a worthy effort. The thing that strikes me about people doing covers of Van Halen is that you never hear a different take that sounds better than the original to my ears. Obviously part of that is because I'm a Van Halen fan of course, but I think even objectively it can't be argued that there's a better version of a Van Halen song out there than the ones they put out themselves. Even this one, which is great, is more or less a note-for-note remake.

Consider that and then look at the covers VH did and it just shows how awesome the band was/is. They can take a song that is either obscure or well known and still make it better (arguably) than the original. Think of the swagger of Pretty Woman, the animalistic enthusiasm of You Really Got Me, the sheer force of Ice Cream Man, etc. In all cases the cover can be argued to be better than the original. I've yet to see that with a VH tune.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

You couldn't have summed it up better. Oddly enough, the best cover I ever heard was from the original VH tribute album: "Could This Be Magic?" from Everybody Wants Some. The upbeat more rockin' version sung by a chick. Still can't touch it, but the best I've heard anyone come within even the vicinity.

I think the difference with the VH covers is that they took the song and made it their own, similar to what Joe Cocker did, rather than play a note for note copy.

I think Stone Sour did a great job of Unchained.

The Stone Sour version was a good cover.

But to concur with the general thoughts here, yeah, haven't heard a cover of a VH song that is an improvement. VH improves everyone else's though.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!
