Default Feel Your Love Tonight vs Drop Dead Legs

How about a showdown between two of the best deep cuts from Van Halen's two most popular albums? These awesome songs were both dug out of the archives and were featured on the 2015 tour. A couple of absolutely stellar tunes, but I give the nod to Feel Your Love Tonight. The song basically set the template for hard rock pop. Often imitated, but never duplicated, The Mighty Van Halen ...

Love em both, and so happy I got to see them both played last summer. FYLT is high energy, fun to play on the drums, and has a terrific solo by Ed, one of my favorite solos on the debut.

But there's something about the laid back strut of DDL, and how Dave's clipped vocal delivery almost mimics the guitar riff to me. Always loved the cool tom/snare fill Alex does at the break, what can one really say about Ed's awesome outro solo?

Drop Dead Legs by a slim margin.

Since we used to feature FYLT in my cover band days I'll give it the nod. Ed's solo is tasty! Plus the Beatles nod and the backing vox are stellar.

Too bad you don't live near me JD. We'd have a lot of tunes to jam!
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

Ah, man. Two great songs. I have to go with Drop Dead Legs. For me, it is a contender for best song on 1984.

Always had a love for FLYT, just the playfulness of the vocal melody "gettin' funny in the back of my car, I'm sorry honey if I took you just a little too far...a too too far-ar-ar", hella fun tune.

DDL is great with a monster riff, but I prefer FYLT.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

A man's rights rests in three boxes: the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

That's a tough one, but I gotta go with Feel Your Love Tonight.

FYLT takes the top spot for me, though i absolutely love the ending Holdsworthian improv
at the tail end of DDL.

I truly wish Ed had followed that direction, with future solo's.
1984 is interesting because the songwriting seems more geared to the poppier
end of the VH sound, yet the solo's are practically jazz fusion.

The fade-out to HOP feels like Ed shutting the door on that chapter of being
    the essential guitar hero.

Yeah, DDL's with that incredible solo....one of my favs. The riff, the riff before the solo, the bridge, the chorus...it's full of great stuff!

FYLT is great, but I gotta go DDL's here. It's a top ten, for me.

Feel your love tonight has a killer tone to it due to Ed using the ibanez. I know used the franky for ddl. Both are great songs but feel your love tonight has that early Ed "fire" that later on he kinda put on the shelf. It's debatable that there are no bad VH songs so they both rock the house.

FYLT at one point was my favorite VH song overall. It's such a great tune with the solo, the tone, Dave's vocal, the acapella harmony... But DDL has consistently been a song that I look at as to what separates the band from the pack. I can almost hear another great band coming up with a variation of FYLT's catchy riff or melody on their own. No one has ever created a song like DDL without having first heard DDL. That slow power riff, with (as JD said) Dave's clipped vocal, is what CVH is... it also has one of my favorite Dave vocal decisions -- at the end of the second verse, instead of a lyric like "Nothing else could ever do" the first time, he replaces the last line with just "Oooooo. Aw, baaaby!" Classic Dave.

DDL, today and everyday, twice on Sunday. In fact, I can't imagine life without this song.

Agreed, DDL is my favorite CVH by far, by many many miles. LOVE that song.

FYLT is a cool track too, just nowhere near DDL IMO. I feel like FYLT gets a little overlooked on VH1 because of all the classics that surround that song on that record, but it's a really good song.

That can also be said about DDL
