Default Source Of Infection vs Amsterdam

Two of the most rockin' songs from the Sammy era. Also, maybe Sammy's two most maligned songs when it comes to lyrics. FWIW, the lyrics (even if one is about herpes and the other is about pot) have never detracted one iota from my enjoyment of either one of them.

I have to give the edge to Source Of Infection. Ed and Al both absolutely rage on this tune that reminds me of a hybrid of I'm The One and Hot For Teacher.

    vs

"It's so lonely at the top because it's so crowded at the bottom" - Diamond David Lee Roth

"If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you"

"Be careful what you wish for because you just might lose what you already have"

"Women and Children First ... The REAL Van Halen III"

Both are rawkin' and both are pure Van Halen, IMO.

Amsterdam for the win, although SOI has an awful lot going for it. Both songs do.
I'll elaborate in a later post...
"There's too many people on this basketball that's floating around the sun, who are too afraid to allow themselves to FEEL" - Edward Van Halen
"Van Halen was never about the singer..." - a very wise fan.
"Embrace the past. Live in the moment but keep your eyes on the future, and keep on moving forward..." - Richie Sambora

Don't really like either one of them too much.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

    Amsterdam then.

Sam ruins SOI for me, and it could have been great.

Standard disclaimer: I love Sammy Hagar, I have his solo albums, even bought his most recent single Inner Child. My not liking a specific song in his career should not imply that I don't respect him as an artist and as a human being. I have Cabo Wabo tequila in my bar downstairs, and I even got to meet Sam on the 2002 Sam and Dave tour and thought he was a great guy.

    SOI feels redundant to me.

Here's a few bits from these other, better song's we once did, but with
half baked lyrics and a lazy musical approach.

It's like all the pieces are tacked on to make a song.
It also has a whiff of the bands, like White Lion, that followed in their wake.

    "Amsterdam" was better, musically.
It was it's own kinda thing, though not something i'd regularly listen to.

I always thought alot of the songs on ou812 sounded like Eddie and Sammy trying to rip off themselves.

    Source of infection (Sinner's swing)
Sucker in a 3 Piece (Panama)
Cabo Wabo (Make it Last by Montrose)

They also became quite formulaic in their entire albums with the second song being the piano ballad and the last song on side 1 always being a riff monster.

That being said, I love Sammy Hagar era VH, and I don't think he was ever the issue, I think Eddie has been creatively bankrupt since 1987.

Source of infection for the win.

Amsterdam for me, never been crazy about SOI. Surprised Amsterdam was never more popular, always thought it was such a rocking tune with so much energy. I recall Wolf has quite high praise for it too. He posted on his twitter a couple years back that its one of his favorite all time VH songs and that the solo from it is his favorite solo of his dads work.
