    Default Last in Line

Even with cancer, Vivian Campbell is a force to be reckoned with.

I was amazed at how much i like his new band, Last in Line.
I think the singer is great, throughout the album.

Vivian just plays some phenomenal guitar all over this album.
I will never understand how that hack, Phil Collen, gets the spotlight
in Lep, while Viv is reduced to a back-up player.

Campbell is a monster, just listen to his explosive solo in this song.

I just read something on line the other day where Vivian is still taking pot shots at RJD and his wife. That really seemed totally classless to me. I listened to one song awhile ago but it didn't really fire me up, I might give it another go round but listening to VC rag Dio's wife some 25 (or so, I don't know the exact time line) years after he left or was fired was just idiotic.

RJD really screwed Viv over. He pulled a Sharon on him and really fucked him over. He should be bitter to a point. But after his death he should be a little more tactful.

I picked this up on Tuesday. It's a good disc and Freeman's vocals are really good. Vivian has always been one of my favorite players, so I am glad he's back to playing heavier music.

    Very true.

Viv was a huge part of why those early Dio albums are classics, and again,
the rock stars manager/wife got greedy & fucked him over.

    Same thing happened to Jake.

BATM is iconic at this point (the song), and Jake got virtually nothing for it.

    I'd be venting too.

Never heard this. You're right, Jape....this is good. Everything about it is good. He is killer on this. That solo and outro are just plain nasty!

LOL. Yeah, him behind Collen is goofy, but it's only cuz Collen is a main member.

Yeah this is pretty good. Always thought Vivian was kind of like Jake's half brother with their style of playing. I don't know why but always kind of got the same vibe with their soloing.

May have to pick this up

Glad to see he is doing something. I know Phil is more Def Leppard than Viv but come on. The guy has been in the band for like 15 years or so. Throw him a bone

Like Jake, Viv was one of the top guns from that great era (which included Demartini & Lynch).

The solo in "Last in line" is hypnotic.
He leaves space, builds that thing, then tears your face off.

    Yngwie should have taken note.

Here is a good video with some of Vivian's best LIVE lead moments

Also this clip is pretty epic....

Viv's a monster player. We all know this. I remember back in MY heyday, doing cover tunes. We tried "Last in Line" a few times. I literally had a hard time trying to move my fingers that quick, during the solo licks! LOL. Btw, the video that aired on MTV/Much Music? Rocked!!!
I'll submit for the record, that Phil Collin is also a great guitarist. I've seen some stuff that has made me go "Wow..., why doesn't he put that on an album?"

I'll grab the Last In Line album for sure.

Viv's playing has always been very reminiscent of early 80s Gary Moore.

Although I love the Dio stuff, my favourite album that Viv has played on is the first Riverdogs album.

Vivian Campbell forgot how to play guitar when he joined Def Leppard.

I remember reading about that, although I never bought it.
One of those guitar mags had a transcription, but I honestly didn't get into it.

Kind of like that 17 year old kid that Dio had in his band (Rowan?), or that 9 year old who was mentored by Steve Vai.... LOL.

I heard this one today on Ozzy's Boneyard. Great song, especially the last 2-1/2 minutes ...

Boss, he was joining a commercial pop/rock band.
Do I agree that he took a backseat role? Yes. Did I want to see him wail? Yes. Did he? Nope.
