Cool read through, lots of memories of my early listening habits.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

The holy trinity is: II, WACF & FW.

There is a real creative build-up happening there, a real focus on being innovative
while capturing a recklessness & youthfulness.
There is a feeling, a vibe that connects those early VH albums.
It's like all this raw creativity just spilled out, like an open wound.

If you watch those live clips from '79/81, the Don Kirshner stuff, it's pure magic.

Nobody would ever be able to fill Dave's shoes, not even Dave (the second time around).

I agree. To tweak it a little bit, I've always felt their best run of original material was WACF, FW and the originals off DD.

    Great point.

I absolutely love the originals on DD, and i would absolutely classify the strength of
that material on par with my aforementioned Holy Trinity.

What i love about number 2 is the fact that Dave became "Diamond Dave" on that album.
You can hear him vibing, relaxing, strutting, a major world tour under his belt.
Dare i say, the swagger was on display...

I love the debut, it is earnest & confident.

But II is more cocky & wink wink/ nudge nudge.

The two bookends of "The 6 Pack" weren't too shabby, either.

I'm sorry, the answer we were looking for was "the first four albums."

I still put 1984 up there with in the same class as VH, VH II, WACF and 1984. The originals on DD are excellent. The rest of DD ...

I'm one of the few that reaches for Diver over 1984.

Ive always considered DD an EP, a few new songs, a few old ones, some covers. More like VH's 'Odds and Sods'. On that level I like DD, but as an actual album its weak, especially after FW.

I just love the raw, party vibe of things like: WHATGTG! Hang 'em, Full Bug, Little guitars, Secrets is gorgeous,
Cathedral is gorgeous, Intruder is vicious, i do like PW, it's still got that CVH delivery i love.

"The Full Bug" is so under-rated.

The band is just killin' it, and Roth delivers a tour de force vocal.

    Album is way too short.
    It deserved better.
