Normally, I don't click on Dave videos but I was feelin' generous.

    I thought it was cool.

mdk made the video to go along with the song Roth posted. DLR had nothing to do with the video at all.
I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.

I didn't even make the connection with mdk creating the video. Good catch. I doubt that Dave would have stuck in the VH logo at the beginning.

Yep, agree, that tune and key are in Dave's wheelhouse. If he connects with a band again, would be helpful (to him and it would shut down critics of his voice) if he somehow could stick in this range.

I think he sounds great in the acoustic song as well:

Does Dave think this version will catch-on somehow? That New Yorkers will see it as a new anthem, or something?

Or is he doing stuff he just enjoys, not worrying about his "brand" or commercial appeal? All speculation until Dave joins this board for a live conversation!

By far the best of the songs Dave has released on the Roth Show. He sounds really reflective in this one. Almost in a somber way.

Yeah, lyrics are stellar. I really hope he is not talking about EVH in it though:

Sure looked good on paper, once upon a lie.
Happily never after, and I’m not OK to drive.
You and me both, speaking the language of dreams.
Now it’s dark glasses on a sleepless night, ain’t no Christmas for me.

Let’s put the pin back in this one, and say we both survived.
Last blank space on the map, I think we’ve arrived.
Headway or getaway, make no difference to me.
This side or the other, ain’t no Christmas for me.

Shakespeare’s heroes all drink ale, his villains all drink beer.
I had to drink something better, or I wouldn’t be here.
Have a pitcher full of pity, a shot of possibility,
Tall cool glass of nothing else, make no difference to me.
Dark glasses on a sleepless night, ain’t no Christmas for me.

    [speaks]Here’s where the narrative changes.

Only hurts when I’m awake, that you can believe.
Yeah, I’d do it all again, just not for free.
If love’s a collect call, why-why’s it always for me.
Quittin’ while you’re ahead ain’t quittin’, and I’m quittin’.

Locals-only naked city, and the visit ain’t free.
Was the pear on the ground, not the apple in the tree?
Give me a pitcher full of pity, and a shot of possibility.
This side or the other, ain’t no Christmas for me.
No Christmas, ain’t gonna be no Christmas, ain’t no Christmas for me.
    Ain’t no Christmas for me.
    Not this year.

Those are some good damn lyrics.

Where in the fuck is Ed to put some music to it?
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Good question. Just like the "Baby Driver" cover, I hear Ed's guitar all over this one.

Great job David, great job .

Yeah, that's what I thought too.

That sounded like a "this reunion didn't go how I thought" song.

You could tell from the hints DLR has dropped over the past decade that he wished they did more touring and recording, etc.

I get the feeling that what happened in the lead up to Tokyo Live will be a very interesting story.
