    Default Justice League Movie

Justice League begins shooting April 11

The legal maxim, “Justice delayed is justice denied” wasn’t meant to apply to superhero films, but the epic wait is finally over for DC fans

Zack Snyder’s Justice League — Part 1 is officially a go at Warner Bros. and will begin filming on April 11, a little over two weeks after the release of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, the director and studio tell EW.

“The idea that we could begin to boot up a Justice League concept was a cool thing,” says Snyder, who also directed 2013’s Man of Steel and has become one of the key figures in shaping DC’s connected film universe.

“It was a little bit of an ‘about time’ moment, and I don’t blame [the studio] for feeling that way, because it’s a long time coming,” he said. “But I do feel like it’s a little bit of a creative hurdle. It seems like an easy thing to do at first glance, the idea that, ‘Oh, we just get the rest of the superheroes in there.’ But you have to [establish] a world where they can exist.”

Dawn of Justice, which hits theaters March 25, focuses on a clash between Superman (played again by Henry Cavill) and a new Batman/Bruce Wayne, portrayed by Ben Affleck, who is seething with rage toward the Kryptonian over the destruction unleashed on Metropolis in Man of Steel. The film also features a major role for Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot), which is — astoundingly — the first time the character has appeared in a live-action feature film in her 75-year history.

Other famous DC characters also make brief appearances in that movie — Ezra Miller as the Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg — but while Batman and Superman battle it out in the main storyline, those are cameos that mainly lay groundwork for a broader universe in Justice League.

Fans can be forgiven for wondering if they’d ever really get to see all of DC’s heroes on one side. But this time, there’s no doubt. It’s happening, and Snyder is currently in the U.K. prepping for the start.

A previous Justice League movie was planned in 2007, with Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller at the helm, and many of the main characters had been cast: Armie Hammer as Batman, D.J. Catrona as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Common as Green Lantern, and Adam Brody as the Flash. Then the project collapsed due to the 2007-08 Writers Guild strike when the script wasn’t ready in time to begin principal photography and many of the deals lapsed.

Wonder Woman was also supposed to get her own feature back in 2005 when Joss Whedon was developing a story that he planned to write and direct, but that project also notoriously never came to fruition. Finally, Diana Prince’s Amazonian alter-ego will get a stand-alone in between Batman v. Superman and Justice League.

Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster) and starring Gadot, is currently shooting and will be released on June 23, 2017. That film will be followed up just a few months later by Snyder’s Justice League, which will debut Nov. 17, 2017.

Justice League will shoot at the Warner Bros. Leavesden studios in southeast England, as well as various locations around London and in Iceland. While this film is being designated Part 1, the follow-up installment, which will shoot separately, is already on the studio’s release schedule for 2019, following standalone movies for The Flash and Aquaman (both planned for 2018).

After Justice League — Part 2, Warner Bros. has plans for a Cyborg movie with Fisher, and a new take on Green Lantern, although an actor for that role hasn’t been revealed yet and those movies, set for somewhere in 2020, haven’t been given release dates.

There may also be other DC movies that turn up in the meantime, according to Warner Bros. A Ben Affleck-directed Batman movie is one possibility.

Dwayne Johnson has tweeted about playing the villain Black Adam in a Warner Bros./New Line production of DC’s Shazam, and that movie has been announced by the studio for 2019, but it’s not clear whether it’s part of the same narrartive as the other movies.

While three years passed between the release Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman, that was mainly because the various creative teams were mapping out so many interlocked stories. “The studio really wants us to try and pace it up, as far as —now we have an idea where we’re going,” Snyder says

'Justice League' Adds J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon

The Justice League has found its Commissioner Gordon.

Oscar winner J.K. Simmons has been cast as the Gotham City police commissioner.

Justice League, which will be directed by Zack Snyder, sees heroes Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) teaming up to combat a threat beyond each member's capabilities.

Chris Terrio wrote the screenplay for Justice League, which will be released in two parts by Warner Bros. It's produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder.

Justice League: Part One will start shooting in mid-April. It's slated for release on Nov 17, 2017 while Part Two will hit theaters on June 14, 2019. Warner Bros.' next DC film will be Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which hits theaters on March 25.

The DC Comics character Commissioner James Gordon has been played by a slew of actors over the years, including Lyle Talbot in the 1949 series Batman and Robin, Neil Hamilton in the TV series Batman in the 1960s, Pat Hingle in the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher Batman movie franchise, and most recently, by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight films. The character is an integral part of the Batman literary mythos and is the lead character in Gotham, Fox's take on Gordon's early days, where he is played by Ben McKenzie.

Simmons is already a familiar face in the superhero world as he played publisher J. Jonah Jameson in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies.

Simmons has been very busy since winning the best supporting actor Oscar for Whiplash in 2015. He’s reteaming with Damien Chazelle for his musical La La Land, and he voices a character in this past weekend’s big hit animated film Zootopia. He recently joined Mark Wahlberg in the Boston bombing film Patriots’ Day, and he’ll be seen in The Meddler with Susan Sarandon and Rose Byrne, which is due out in April. His other projects in post including The Accountant with Ben Affleck, Bastards with Owen Wilson and Ed Helms and The Snowman with Michael Fassbender. He’s repped by Gersh.

Zack Snyder Switches Cinematographers for ‘Batman v Superman’ Follow-Up

Production on Justice League has reportedly gotten underway today in London, but director Zack Snyder is working with a different cinematographer this time around. While Man of Steel was shot by Bad Boys II DP Amir Mokri, Snyder went back to working with frequent collaborator Larry Fong on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Fong has shot every Snyder film aside from Man of Steel, Dawn of the Dead, and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, but now it appears that Fong is also sitting out the DC Superhero team-up film Justice League.

Per The Playlist, Fabian Wagner has been set as the cinematographer for Justice League, marking his biggest project yet. Wagner served as the director of photography on the second season of Sherlock, five episodes of Da Vinci’s Demons, and various episodes of Game of Thrones—including two for the upcoming season—but his most notable feature film credit is last year’s Victor Frankenstein. So yeah, this is a big job for Wagner and a curious move by Snyder.

Whatever you think of his films overall, Snyder is undeniably a brilliant visualist, and he’s proved consistently that he’s able to conjure some pretty iconic imagery throughout his career. However, Batman v Superman felt oddly ugly and messy at times, lacking some of the cohesiveness that made the visuals of Snyder’s previous films pop. So I’m not wholly opposed to Snyder switching things up behind the camera for Justice League, if only to potentially reinvigorate his approach to these superheroes.

And with screenwriter Chris Terrio previously saying this next film will be a bit lighter in tone than Batman v Superman, perhaps Snyder’s just looking to conjure a different visual palette. But it also could simply boil down to scheduling, as Fong is the cinematographer on Kong: Skull Island, which is in the midst of winding down a very lengthy shoot and likely wasn’t available to prep and shoot Justice League as well.

Whatever the case, I’m curious to see how the DC Extended Universe progresses from a visual standpoint, and Wagner marks an unexpected yet somewhat exciting choice. Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, and Amy Adams opens in theaters on November 17, 2017.

'Justice League' Adds Willem Dafoe to Cast

    It’s a Spider-Man reunion!

First we found out that J.K. Simmons is playing Commissioner Gordon in Justice League, and now The Hollywood Reporter says that Willem Dafoe has been cast as well. His role is being kept under wraps, all we know is that he’s a good guy and will appear in both Justice League movies.

Justice League: Part One is currently shooting in London, it hits theaters on November 17, 2017.

    The corrections have begun.

Ben Affleck is now an executive producer on ‘Justice League’

Justice League: Part One is getting a new executive producer, and his name is Ben Affleck! Deadline reports that Affleck will work directly with director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio behind the scenes to make the film the best it can be.

This news comes after reports that Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder were fighting over the movie. It sounds like Warner Bros. is bringing in Affleck to smooth things over a bit. Hopefully Snyder is seeing this as a positive, because after all, Affleck is an Oscar-winning filmmaker!

Deadline says that Affleck decided to take on the producer job to support Zack Snyder, someone he obviously respects after making Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with him.

We know that Willem Dafoe is in Justice League, but that's about it. There's been a ton of speculation on the matter, so I checked in with my sources to see if they could offer any insight. They sort of, kind of did. What follows is like half a scoop.

According to my sources Willem Dafoe is playing an Atlantean. That's all I got for you. Start your speculation machines on which Atlantean he could be, although keep in mind that initial reports have him as a "good guy."

I do have some more insight into how they'll accomplish Atlantean stuff in Justice League (and, I assume, Aquaman, which went back to the drawing board in the last week or so with a complete page one rewrite). In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Aquaman's cameo was marred by the fact that Jason Momoa was very, very clearly holding his breath in a water tank.

Since Green Lantern doesn't seem to be involved, I guess the Super Seven was not an option.

Never really liked The Super Seven anyway, always preferred Justice League.

Wait, wasn't The Super Seven made up of the remaining members of the Justice League after it disbanded? So many re-boots it's hard to keep track.

there never was a team called the 'super 7". there was a team in the 40's called "the seven soldiers of victory", made up of characters that were not used in the Justice Society (the justice league of the 40's), they were mostly b-list hero's. The Crimson Avenger, Vigilante (the 40's, cowboy version), the Shinning Knight etc.

the super 7 was mentioned in the Justice League: War animated movie but more as a joke.

DC Comics Wiki has a page about them. Not trying to be contrarian, but it seemed a part of the mythos for a while. They are currently listed as "Defunct". Maybe a one off? Ah, I just read it, an Elseworld Story. Alternate timeline, alternate universe? Can someone enlighten me?

The Super Seven were formed from the remaining members of the former Justice League. The League had disbanded due to the earth being invaded by a group of alien bandits called the Malazza-Rem. At first they were able to hold the invaders off, but when their leader, Grend'll, issued a decree that every time a Meta-Human was seen, they would kill a thousand people, and five thousand more when one tried to fight back. The League continued to fight, and Coast City was destroyed as a result. This caused the humans to rebel against the Metas, and lead to the deaths of Oliver Queen, Shiera Sanders, and Carter Hall, and the breaking of The Flash's legs to a point where he could no longer run. After this, many heroes abandoned their cause, including: Ted Kord, Ray Palmer, J'onn J'onzz, and Wonder Woman. Later, at a demonstration for a new means of incapacitating humans, Lex Luthor calls in an airstrike from BlackHawk Defense, reasoning that since none of its members were Meta-Human or wore costumes that the Malazza-Rem would not attack them. This caused the death of Blackhawk's Dick Grayson, Selina Kyle, Slade Wilson, Jim Harper, and Ace Morgan. Grend'll then threw Luthor off of a building and ordered his body to be left there. Lana Lang then took Luthor's place as the Malazza-rem's representative to the humans.

    The Longest Night

When Lana Lang informs Jimmy Olsen that she knows where Superman is, they track him down and convince him to come out of hiding. Jimmy and Clark are then found by Wonder Woman, who had consulted an oracle on Paradise Island who told her where and when Superman would return. The three then approach Batman, who bitterly rejects them for turning their backs on the planet, but follows them to Coast City, now called Ghost City, where they encounter a young Meta-Human called Superboy, and Hal Jordan, who is digging graves for the numerous dead. They convince Him to join them, and Batman tags along as they head to Seattle, Washington to speak with Wally West. He is initially disheartened because he feels he is of no use since his legs were destroyed, but he joins on the grounds that he has never backed away from a fight. The group then heads for Metropolis, but in the Rocky Mountains they meet Superboy again, who has destroyed a Malazza-Rem stronghold, but allowed some soldiers to escape. Batman then insists they bring him along to make sure he doesn't do anything like it again. In the Resistance bunker, the group is met by Lex Luthor, whose mind was saved and put into the body of Metallo. They then decide to work together with the resistance soldiers to defeat the Malazza-Rem, and Superboy coins the name "Super Seven".

    Men of Steel

Lana Lang arrives in the Super Seven's resistance bunker to take them on the mission to rescue Lois Lane, but she leads them into a trap and they are forced to fight under a shield that was lowered over Metropolis. Wonder Woman then dies protecting Jimmy who was unable to shoot Lana Lang, who was working for the Malazza-Rem the whole time. They then flee to another bunker and Batman takes Superboy to infiltrate the Malazza-Rem ship. The Malazza-Rem mistake Superboy for Superman and begin to slay the aliens inside. Batman becomes overwhelmed, but tells Superboy to move on as he activates a bomb in his suit. The Ship falls and flattens Suicide Slum, but the shield is disabled and Superboy escapes and rejoins the fight. Flash then gives his life taking a spear that was headed for Green Lantern's back. Superman and Superboy then board the downed ship to see Grend'll murder Lana Lang now that she is no longer of use to him. Superman and Superboy then try to take on Grend'll, but he lowers some Kryptonite that he had ripped out of Metallex's body from the ceiling. Sperboy continues to fight him, as Kryptonite has no effect on him, and is able to defeat him with the help of Metallex. To their dismay, Superman was killed due to overexposure to the Kryptonite, and Superboy puts on his suit and re-enters the fray. With Grend'll defeated, the Malazza-Rem fall apart and earth comes back into balance. Green Lantern then decides to go looking for more Meta-Humans.

I probably sounded like a dick in my post, sorry about that, I realized how it must have read while I was sitting in a meeting.

I'll have to check out the link you provided, there was a rather large crossover in called 'invasion" years ago but I don't remember anything like what was posted (but I wasn't reading a ton of comics at that time).

***I think that's an alternate timeline story, it came out in the early 90's, not long after the "death of superman" storyline where they introduced the new superboy.......I gotta rack my brain on this one.

That was probably the least dickish thing anyone will say to me all day.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

I WANT to say that storyline you referenced is from a company wide crossover called "Armageddon 2001" but it seems to old, it was def an alternate timeline thing, I have the issues it's in somewhere in my basement, it's a really cool storyline.

My prediction is that the Justice League will be a vastly superior film to Batman v. Superman, but will not do as well financially as its predecessor because of the bad taste in people's mouths.

Completely agree, I believe the changes at the top are going to bring a much better movie. But following Man of Steel which people had high hopes for and were mostly disappointed, they gave BvS a second chance, but for the third outing will likely stay home.
But reviews for Suicide Squad are really strong and if it does well, it might be enough to give people recent memory loss
