Default I'm Watching "Live Without A Net Again"

1986, April I was 16 years old by one month and I had a 1976 Monte Carlo with a 350. I asked my friend Ken kaemerer if he wanted to go see VANHALEN. He was all exited and bought some weed. He had this Grey Leather zipper jacket and we worked out that he could fit 10 joints in the fake zipper compartments. The night of the show my Dad was like "You're not driving to Chicaco for a concert" ................We we bummed, so I called my brother who was 10 years older than me and he said yes he would take us. Long story short. He was square, we lost our good seats to accommodate my brother and had to sit behind the stage and never got to break out the joints.

You shoulda been at my show. Gates opened at noon. We gathered at the stage (Ed's side).
The weed was blazing all day.

All day Ed was popping out from backstage. We would chant "Eddie, Eddie"...he'd give us a wave...or hoist a beer at us. The stage was packed, but every time he would look in our direction. There was about a dozen of us. We were pretty loud.

During the show he was throwing picks at us ( of course I didn't get one)....giving us the thumbs up and smiles all night. He knew we were hardcore.

It was a great day for sure.

I haven't watched LWAN in years. I'm overdue.

LWAN is da shit, for real!!!
The band, the vibe, the audiences... Killer stuff.

LWAN and Ozzy's "The Ultimate Ozzy" vhs tapes were akin to me being a kid in a candy store on Christmas morning, with Santa himself, handing me the keys to the premises.
I simply cannot overstate their influence on me.

Eddie Van Halen & Jake E. Lee in 1986? None better then. None better now.
    Oh yeah...., In My Opinion.

I'm going to give it a rewatch. My wife will be away for work at the end of the month so I'm waiting until then so I can crank it up.

One of the best live concert DVD's I own.
Still get a buzz watching it to this day.

The energy of the band, the mateship of the band, the quality & looseness of their musicianship, their jumps, jokes messing around it's all great stuff.

I still think Ed's solo on 5150 in this concert is one of the best solo's mid song he has ever done..

Thought it was so cool when LWAN came out and I found out it was recorded in my home state of CT.

It's the best live DVD ever. Period. I had the VHS since it came out and wore it out. When it came out on DVD in 2004, it was a godsend. I still wish we had the full show, but it's still cool. I love to turn it up. Amazing they were.....

Yeah, I have to break this one out every few months. Watch a song or 2 from the DVD.

Still have the original VHS tape. Also ripped some mp3s off the dvd for occasional listening to in the car or at work.

    +++

I agree about getting the full show. They need to put it out on Blueray with some bonus content of Good Enough and other cut songs. Bonus content could also include some of the other random MTV or unreleased band footage from 86.

Ed's fills in One Way to Rock were amazing! His solo in Summer Nights had some wicked improv licks!
His solo spot medley with extended Mean Street slapping and multi-finger tapping segue was monstrous!!! 6 string mastery for sure.

I still love the melodies he coaxed out during the A string tapped harmonics excursion, too. And that grin he gave at the end of it? Pure Eddie Van Halen
